Repair/replace water pump on 97 chevy s-10

There seems to be a leak on the backside of the water pump on my 97 chevy s-10 with a 3.0 v-6. I was wondering if there is a gasket on the backside that may be leaking? Also, how hard is it to replace the water pump itself?

You will need to replace the water pump itself and its pretty easy to do. take of the top half of the fan shroud, pop off the hoses to the water pump and the take out the bolts to the water pump

Have you tried an 18" crescent wrench and just use a hammer to knock the fan clutch loose?

To get the fan off, you need a special tool called a half h tool, they are not common however i know that many places rent the tool. I myself got the rental for free so i cant imagine it would cost that much. The half H tool holds the bolts in place so you have leverage to then twist the fan off.

My 97 Chevy Suburban keeps leaking a lot of antifreeze, I just had the water pump replaced a month ago, so what's wrong with my truck?

There are a couple of things that could be wrong. 1. The new water pump has failed. This is called infant mortality. It happens sometimes. 2.Sometimes the waterpumps are not assembled correctly by the manufacturer and the diaphragm bolts were not tightened creating a leak. 3. The gasket may not h ave sealed properly. All of these require removal of the water pump and inspection to find the root cause.

It is the water pump most likely, they have ,what they call a weep hole in the bottom under the pulley,so they will leak out to let you know to change them right away.If it is on the top coming from the intake area,it would be the intake, they are also bad to leak, but look at the pump, under the pulley.
