1999 dodge intrepid idles at 3000 rpm

Replaced water pump, now idles at 3000 rpm engine idled normally prior to replacing water pump. Check engine light does not come on.

Check your I A C motor (idle air control motor) Check all your hoses and tubes leading to and from. Check the throttle linkage itself to make sure nothing is obstructing it from returning to normal rpm,

If your alternator is going bad the battery indicator light will come on your dash. I did the same thing before thinking my battery was bad and buying a new one. Turns out it was the alternator. Hope this helps..

I think you have ruled out the engine with all the parts you have replace. The transmission torque convertor is in lock up mode all the time. The engine is having to hard of a time to stay at the normal idle. The over drive clutches and soleniod are most likely damaged in the transmission.
I think you should take the vehicle to a trasnmission shop , The can check the torque convetror soleniods and pressure control soleniod.

The oil light coming on bothers me. I know you have the rebuilt engine in the vehicle but I think the oil pump in the engine is starting to go out or could be weak. The lower bearings connected to the crank shaft might be starting to leak. Have the oil pressure checked .

Find your firewall electrical junction block (where all the wires enter the cabin on the passenger side) and with a zip tie pull up the wire bundle so it does not ride on the upper tie rods and, fasten the zip tie to anything that is solid in the engine compartment and, let me know what happens

Ticking, water boiling, temp guage reads normal. replaced thermostat housing...no sugnificant change

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

If it's not overheating then it's just normal. The radiator coolant is really boiling and it must not be opened when the engine is running on normal temperature. If the engine runs sluggish and the temp is still in normal then there surely is problem with the gauge. Have it replaced including the water pump of the car. The coolant must flow freely on the radiator and if the water pump is faulty it will flow slow which may cause overheating.

how much? if a little this is normal computer compensates for the decrees in idle to keep idle at the right rpm. In the cold weather the RPM will increase while in idle for 10 mins to keep the engine at correct operating temp. =If you need more assistance write me, Lee

2004 Dodge Intrepid "jumps" occasionally when braking?

if your car has the 2.7 litre you have to change the oil every 5oookm or 3000 miles and use the exact grade as per the book.
the 2.7 has small oil galleries.
you have low oil pressure and or idle speed.check the rpm and it should be 700 unloaded at warm temp.if the iac controller is bad and there is low idle,really low rpm could trigger the oil light to come on and the transmission vacuum controls will be causing strange behavior.

The throttle position sensor may be misaligned. This tells the computer how much throttle is being applied, and when they go bad, or come out of alignment, the idle tends to get up there. If that's not the issue, remove your air cleaner, the housing and everything until you get to the MAP sensor. Give it a good spray with carb cleaner, let it dry and replace the air cleaner with a new one. If the MAP sensor detects minimal air flow, the computer jacks up the idle to compensate.

near the throttle body part there is a electronic idle control valve either this control valve is defect or there is a leak between the body and the valve.
