Can i use a transmition from 1998 grand cherokee laredo 4wd to a jeep laredo 1998 4.0 4wd. will work same trnsmition?

The 4wd of my jeep laredo 1998 is not good. will work with out problem if i use a 4wd from a cherokee laredo 1998? PLEASE LET ME KNOW thanks

Hi Jose, I've never tried but if you go visit a breakers yard and compare the physical dimensions of both boxes and they match up, there is no reason why they should not. Most manufactures use the same units in a variety of models and if you've found a similar vehicle with identical uses the parts are most likely interchangeable. Regards John

the only problem that vehicle has is with cooling fans is relay/module or electrical harness to module that burns up located behind and under right front headlamp assy must remove headlamp to access relay/module that is what powers up fan motor module assy.

OBD II Monitor Type: CCM Details
Indicators: MIL Details

Trouble Code Conditions:
Check with ignition on or engine running; battery voltage more than 10v; The PCM detected the IAT Sensor input was over 4.90v (exc. Dakota, Durango, Ram) or 4.98v (Dakota, Durango, Ram) for 3 seconds.

Possible Causes:
  • IAT Sensor signal circuit shorted to VREF (5v)
  • IAT Sensor signal circuit is open, or the ground circuit is open
  • IAT Sensor is damaged or it has failed (an internal open circuit)
  • PCM has failed

Is it possible to turn off the 4wd on my 98 laredo or is it engaged all the time

If you have a 4WD on your Laredo (mostly this version is sold as 2WD - rear wheel drive), you can't turn them off. The Granny with 4WD has a All Time 4WD. The only way to turn it off is to remove the drive shaft and close the hole in the gearbox...smile..
