1988 700R4 Electric transmission

The trans is in a 1955 chevy with 400 small block. Works very well, but wants to hang in first gear sometimes. I'VE adjusted tv cable many times and every thing works great, but wants to hang in first gear sometimes. Seams to work good cold. To get it to shift i stop put it in nutral back to od and most the tine it will shift. All other shifts are great. I've also stoped at stop sign turned right it makes a good shift then it might go back to 1'st

Thanks Steve

Sounds like a sticky check valve in the valve body, try using the new synthetic Dexron VI FLUID GM recommends for all there trans's now, it may cure the problem, it is far superior in every way to the old Dexron 3 Click the link for a press release and info on this great fluid, replace the fluid in my 96 Corvette, better shifting and all around performance.

What would cause a turbo 400 transmission to not go into any gear until it wants to. It will sit for any length of time and then go into gear. after that it shifts fine until you shut the truck...

Sounds like a blocked transmission oil filter or front oil pump problem. Have you had the transmission serviced (e.g. flushed with fluid and filter replaced)?

Trying to restore 81 trans am with 400 small block Chevy just replace ignition tumbler and I get nothing, lights work but nothing else when I turn the key

Did you hook up all the fusible links correctly at the starter? If this is tilt steering then also make sure the tilt gear and the ignition drive gear are timed to each other so you get full rod movement to the starter switch located down at/near the bottom of the steering column.

I have 58 chevy apache and have a turbo 400 transmission. It does 60 mph at 3000 rpm's. I would like to change the entire rear end so that it goes 60 mph at approx 2200 rpm. I now have a 350 engine in...

I don't think you can get a rear end that high sped, the best I've ever seen is a 3.2 something . I had that with a 305 and my engine revved higher than 2200 with that. I think you would be better off with a 700R4 transmission from the early-mid 80's. It should bolt on and the overdrive works off an electric/vaccuum switch mounted on the firewall. Hope this helps.

How do i go about putting a big block into a chevy bel-air

The big block should mate up to the trans. just fine if it's a T-350 or T-400 trans. that you're using. You'll have to change the engine mounts and your accessory brackets to the big block application. The fuel pump, I believe, is going to be different. The carb. linkage will be the same. Your exhaust may not bolt right up depending if you're using headers or not. The distributor will be the same as the small block. The guage hook ups will be pretty close to the other engine.

1997 Chevy 1500 P/U 4x4 small V8. Transmission shifting issue.

you may be confusing the torque converter clutch engagement with o.d. this trans has a problem with the T.C.C. regulator valve wearing out the valve body bore. this will cause the converter clutch to engage only sometimes or not at all. this will set a P1870 code in the control module. when this code is stored in the controller, ( check engine light may or may not be on), it increases the pressure in the transmission causing the 1-2 shift to be harsh. ask a local tranny shop to scan the vehicle ( most will do this for free) if this is the problem they can either fix your valve body (sonnax parts) or replace it with an upgraded valve body. hope this helps

It is like it is between gears. it sometimes

Yes they are ,and it may be the Transmission Solenoid Body/Block 4L2Z-7G391-AA inside the trans. They are around $270.00 Have to remove the trans pan and about 7 screws holding it. It has 4 shift solenoids and 3 pressure control solenoids and 1 converter lock-up solenoid in it.
