How to jack frt end of 1998 cavalier? Before anyone answers, read on. I see the manuals with the jack points, about 4 to 6 inches behind the frt wheel well. But that piece always bends, it about disingrated when I let the car down, not drop, on it. What about the subframe as a jack point??

the same as your jack in the trunk, along the rocker panel you will see a spot to set the jack. see the owners manual, Usually... just a few inches behind the front wheel and a few inches ahead of the rear wheel. it kind of looks like a tab, thats where the rocker is reinforced.
it is not that fun, you need to have 1/4 inch tools, 10mm socket 8mm socket, 12 mm socket,18mm socket. and wrenches to match. you need to support car on jack stands and remove pass tire. Go to your local auto parts store and get a manual first. as the valve timing is very critical in the installation process !!!!!!!!!!! if this timing is not done exactly you will cause severe engine damage to valves and pistons. read manual and read again then assemble it right the first time as there is no room for error. Belt is 30 -50 $$$ depending where you go.
if its a floor jack or the stock jack place it on the pince well at the bottom of door about 6 inch from frt of fender, put e-brake on when jacking car, heres a diagram to show you the four points, hope this helps.
Please consult your owners manual. The manufacture is very specific about where to jack this car for safety reasons. If you do not have a manual, buy one and or talk to the dealer about this issue
I have a 1998 olds Regency frt whl drive auto trans. Do not know the trans ref like 460 e? or what. Any how have had a frt growl, vib @ 65 mph, up and down ride at 10mph. New balanced tires replaced lh whl bearing by guess mechanic said th whl brg was ok. Latest Son checked the drive axles for movement--there is up and dn movement @ shaft into trans end --lh & Rh side also clunkie noise. Trans seal not leaking, yet. I suspect brgs or a bushing in trans end as it accepts the drive axle. If it the problem is it replaceable after axle removeable?? John Pankow jpankowsenior@verizon
