05 Buick Rainier, power seat does not move front to back, everything else works (power, lumbar, heat, seat back and hieght, just the base does not move back to front. Memory keys work fine When you try to activate or move the seat with the switch on the side of the seat, you can hear something clicking, but there's no motion.
I had wiggled the wire once and it "fixed" the problem temporarily, but that's not working this time, doe the servo motors have a history of locking up? Is there a saftey switch that might be preventing it from moving?
Any help appreciated 05 Buick Rainier, power seat does not move front to back, everything else works (power, lumbar, heat, seat back and hieght, just the base does not move back to front. 5/4/11...I have a 2006 GMC Envoy and the electric, front driver seat stopped going forward and back. It continued to go up/down and tilt ok. I banged the side of the seat near the switch with my hand a few times and presto...it works again!!!

Check under the seat for broken wires. Forward and backwards is the function most used and causes the wires to bend back and forth. you may need to remove the seat for inspection or you may be lucky and see the problem just by raising the seat as high as it will go.
Electric or manual??? If electric one of the motors has gone out. If the kids were playing with it they may have held the button down causing the motor to spin while the seat was all the way foward and it will just burn the motor up after so long. Also the switch could be bad. Unfortunatley being that its power there is no way to manually move the seat back without the motor turning or removing the seat and spinning the motor sprocket by hand...
You can move the drivers seat back by turning on the power, getting in the seat and position your feet firmly on the fron flor with your back firmly against he seatback, and then engage the switch pushing back - while pushing like hell with your feet. You can actually hear the seat drive shaft turning while the seat moves back. The principle should be the same for moving forward, but pressure would have to be aplide to the back of the seat.
Before you start beating up thing's , test the electrical circuits. Do you know anything about automotive electrical systems ? How to use a volt meter an a wiring diagram to test for B+ power to the switch an testing the ground .
Does your envoy have memory seats ? Your vehicle has four or more electric motors to control back an foward , up an down etc.. the odds of more then one motor being bad at one time are highly unlikely .
Look under the seat any trash under there keeping it from moving ?
If you have memory seats there is a control module involved in making the seats work . If it has memory seats it could have DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes .
DTC B1735, B1740, B1745, B1750, B1755, B1760, B1815, or B1820
The seat adjuster switches are inputs to the driver and passenger seat modules. The seat modules supply the adjuster switch assemblies with a battery positive switch supply circuit and monitor the switch signal circuits. In an inactive state the switch signal circuits are floating and when a switch is pressed the signal circuit is closed to the switch power circuit within the adjuster switch assembly. When battery voltage is present on the switch signal circuit the seat module determines the switch status to be active. DIY Blazer GMC Jimmy Power Seat Control Diagnostics and Repair Electric...
First of all did you check the fuses? There should be one for the seats. If they're ok then get a Haynes Repair Manual for your 02 Envoy it'll probably even have illustrations showing you how to do it. Its my best advice, you can get one from just about any auto part store.
My drivers side power seat stopped moving forward and back...back rest still worked. Took it to dealer and they charged me $60 to fix a "loose wire."
The seat worked for 2-3 days and quit again. Took it back to the dealer, and they now said it needed a new motor and track at a cost of $750+. Told them to forget it and called GM. GM will not cover it, and they have not covered a host of other problems like new radiator, new water pump, new instrument guage cluster, cracked exhaust manifold, and misaligned rear door/window air deflector (which they even have a bulletin out to all service department that it is poor design and the body shop should "shave the plastic down so it doesn't hit roof when door is open).
Back to the seat, I took a large, flat blade screwdriver and ran it along the seat guide rails and pryed on the seat mount slightly....guess what? It the power seat now moves forward and back.
Bottom line is GM manufactures junk and will not stand behind it. Now we know why the company is going bankrupt.
Take apart the drive box in front of seat track, on both sides with an allen wrench. You can then push the seat to get at the bolts to remove it. My trolley drive motor had bad brushes. I am now looking to replace the motor, if I can find the replacement.

lumbar support makes noise but doesn't push forward. Is there an air bag in the seat or is it mechanical?
