Jump low pressure switch - 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix

  • Anonymous Mar 30, 2012

There are 3 points of connection on the harness. Tried all 3 in different combinations.

I should have mentioned that there are 2 wire, 3 wire, 4 wire and in rare instances a 5 wire sensor that can be used.

Unfortunately, each car model is different and there is not an available comprehensive wiring diagram that tells how the automaker chose to use them.

1st, you should only be testing the wire that comes into the switch and one of the two wires going out. One should be going to the fan relay, the other to the computer to tell it to increase the idle rpm.

When I do this type if work, I use the volt/ohm meter to determine which wire is which, so as not to damage anything.

This involves testing from the clutch wiring back to the switch, and testing the switch input. If you're not familiar with doing that, you may need a vehicle specific wiring diagram, (sorry but I only have them for some vehicles), you can usually find them at the parts stores, or on line.

    Good luck !

Actually, you jump the two slots on the harness, which simulates the switch closing due to pressure.

You can just use a short piece of 12V type wiring to connect from one plug side to the other in the harness that goes to the switch.

The low pressure switch would be around the air dyer system.

If line drier is cool on one side and warm on other you have a line restriction. Is compressor cycling on and off.?.. be careful jumping low pressure switch...The high pressure on low side is restriction going to evaporator coil in firewall... check for a filter in cab for evaporator coil it may be stopped up

How do you jump a/c compressor so it will take the freon?

The interuptions in compressor engagement is due to low side drops which is controlled by the pressure switch mounted on the low hose or large metal accumulator on the passenger side. Low side hoses are larger and the accumulator is on the passenger side engine compartment...a paper clip works fine jumping this low side pressure switch out until freon pressures increase enough to keep compressor running to accept freon.

I need to know how to jump the ac low pressure to get my ac compressor to come on.

If you look on the low pressure side of the AC system you will see a plug that is incorporated in to the line. It will have two wires leading to it. Remove the plastic clip that attaches the two wires to the sensor and use a short piece of wire to connect the two terminals in side the plug by putting the ends into the cap. This will bypass the low pressure sensor and allow the AC clutch to engage and begin to cycle again. Remember this low pressure switch is there for a reason. If you don't add more r-134 to the system and allow the AC compressor to cycle you will destroy the compressor. You need to charge the system when you bypass the low pressure switch and get the system up to full charge status and reconnect the switch.

99 Suburban A/C Not working

The A/C pressue switch may be bad as well. Also the mode switch on the control head inside the vehicle. There are many other exsisting problems pertaining to a/c. I suggest a manual from Auto Zone for many faults can be noted especially wiring can be at fault
