I have a 02 altima...during acceleration on the freeway I get a sucction noise coming from my dash and I have a loss of power and the car takes a few minutes to shift into a higher gear when I punch the throttle....sounds like I may have a vaccuum problem but dont know where to start...especially if the noise is coming from the dash....it doesnt do it during idle...only under a load...does someone have a clue what it could be or even where to start.......oh yah...no check engine light....thank you!!

When you open the throttle you drop the vacuum in the manifold very low so should not be hearing a vacuum in the dash.You may be hearing an exhaust leak near the engine compartment as air tries to escape in a plugged exhaust system as you open the throttle and fill it with exhaust.
Put it in drive and with one foot on the brake, open the throttle a little until you get the hissing sound.Have someone listen outside the vehicle for air escaping from the exhaust.If it is still an interior noise,you can also find it more easily stationary with the engine load applied.
BE CAREFUL WHEN LOADING THE ENGINE THIS WAY!

Probably sensors! I have already replaced the crankshaft positioning sensor once, nissan replaced it once under recall and now it is bad again! Plus my speed sensor is bad too! Go to any part store and get diagnostic test ran, it will tell what sensors are bad.

it look like a mass air flow sensor the sensor that goes in the air filter usual sentra symtom no power stall when realesing the gas pedal pierre p.s go to a wreaker scrap yard bye the piece it will work

Your getting backfires? hmm interesting. Seems like your engine is getting flooded and either purging it out of the exhaust or burning it all at once or both (backfire). Sounds like a leaky engine valve to me.There again the bluish smoke indicates to me thatyou are leaking oil somewhere- bad rings or head gasket maybe, which could cause a loss of compression which could also cause your problems.That rattling from the left/rear side sounds like a bad muffler try kicking the muffler (not hard though) next time you walk by it.

My service engine soon light came on saturday on my 2003 nissan altima 2.5s, took it to the dealer and he stated I need a Catalytic Converter for the light to go off. Last yr Jan I had the same thing happen and there was a recall on the ECM they reset it for free. Any suggestions? I am so tired of getting ripped off being a single woman. The repair price they gave me was $940, my mechanic says he can repair w/new converter total charge of $300
