Why won't my 1997 Saturn SL start?

Car has been sitting for 6 years, only has 55,000 miles on it. Fuel pump was all gummed up so replaced that with new. Changed oil and put new oil filter on, changed spark plugs, install new serpentine belt. Checked fuses and they seem fine. Went to start car and it won't turn over. It has spark but possibly not getting fuel to fuel rail. Made the mistake of pumping the pedal to help it get started and flooded the darn thing. Looked online for a possible solution and found to reeplace the CPS and or coolant sensor. Purchased those last night but have not had a chance to install yet. If that doesn't work, any idea where I turn next.

Flooded? Im pretty sure it's fuel injected, so pumping the gas does nothing- the computer controls the injectors based on other parameters.
If fuel ssystem is gummed up, you need to clean it all out, including the tank.
You say it won't turn over, does that mean the engine won't crank at all? If so then the pistons could be seized, could be a bad starter/relay. If it cranks then try spraying some starter fluid in the intake while cranking to see if it tries to run. If it stumbles and tries, then it sounds like just a fuel problem.

You have spark at the plugs ..thats something

spray stay you mug
into the throttle body see if the motor will cough

tank needs draining and have fresh fuel
fuel pump has a filter and fuel relay

crack the fuel line connection to the rail to see if there is fuel reaching the rail and correct pressure

if sitting 6 years.. not being run regularly
do a compression test
lifters may be stuck
rings may have lost tension

SOURCE: 94 saturn 1.9L flooding out

i bet the coolant temp sensor is bad,,,when the sensor cracks coolant leaks into and wrecks it and then the coolant leaks thru the sensor and into the harness,,,and this causes the car to dump too much fuel because the computer is seeing a temp that is not real and therefore the air fuel mixture is off and flooding the car,,,typical issue, replace the coolant temp sensor and then harness,,like $75 for both at saturn,,do not by the aftermarket ones, yes the cost less but they are junk and will not work either,,,also i bet if you put the gas pedal to the floor or pump it when this happens i bet the car starts and smokes when it does,,,,saturn redsigned the sensor for this reason,it was plastic and they made it brass so now it can not crack and leak, the aftermarket ones are still plastic junk

1997 Saturn SL can't get it started Have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs, CPS sensor and coolant sensor.

Im not sure if this will completely solve your problem, but I will give it a try.

If the engine is flooded, crank the engine while holding the gas pedal to the floor for a couple minutes (or until it sputters or starts). This will get all of the extra gas out of the engine. Your plugs will be fine.

Check your fuel pressure with a test kit...they have a bleeder port that can purge the air out of the fuel rail. Its possible the old gas may have gone bad in 6 years. you may have to purge the old gas with fresh gas. couldnt hurt to put a couple bottles of fuel injector cleaner with your gas. Your injectors could be gummed up with varnish from the old gas.

Before you waste a bunch of money and time replacing good parts, get a code reader or have a mechanic hook up a code reader for you. This will help isolate your problems. If you are not getting a check engine light, the mechanic method may be better because their computers will give you more information than a handheld.

2002 saturn sl won't start, turn over but won't start

Done cars have a kill switch if they are low on oil. Check your oil. If the oil is good, it may be the ignition switch.

2002 saturn sl won't start, turn over but won't start

If the engine fires up for a second or two with starting fluid then the fuel pump is weak.I would check the fuel pressure and if its not within the specs then replace the pump and filter.

My 2000 saturn has been sitting for almost 2 years since it last fired up and oil is fine has gas, jumped with another car, but wont fire what could the problem be?

First off check your tank for stale gas Also the lines could be gummed up along with your injectors try replacing the old gas with fresh gas check if your fuel pump is working replace your fuel filter and try restarting it again I might take a bit of turning over but it should start
