2001 ford Explorer - engine rattling - is that timing belt/chain

Have a 2001 Exp with approx 120k miles. Recently started hearing knocks in engine. Never had belt changed. Could that be it?

What engine is this? if it is the 4.0L then talk to the dealer there is a recall on the camshaft drive chain hydraulic tensors, these will cause a rattle noise.

I have a 2012 Ford Focus car 2lt does the timing chain have to be replaced as it has 95000 k on the clock thanks

unless you have a distinct chain rattle noise then it will last longer than a belt which is 100,000klm so have it checked but it should be good for around 120k

Rattleting noise seems to be the crankcase rear chain V6.Cyl 4.0 ford exp XLT 2002

Make sure the oil level is good. The hydraulic tensioners for the chain work with the engine's oil. If low it will make a rattling/knocking like noise.

Does a 2001 ford explorer sport have a timing belt or timing chain?

being that you most likely have a 4.0l s.o.h.c. engine you have a timing chain which only needs inspection around 100,000 miles for excessive wear on chain guides and leaking cam seals. this setup tends to last far beyond that mileage without any maintenence. if this was helpful please leave positive rating.

2001 2.2 sunfire engine will start rattling after warming up

Timing CHAIN tensioner you mean? Better have that noise checked ASAP. It may be a problem with the timing chain.

When di I need to change a timing belt with 120K

Now. i think the interval is 75 to 80 miles for belts. double check that it doesn't have a timing chain. if it has the 2.4 ltr eng than you have timing chain and around 120k is fine.
