If this vehicle has high miles, the camshaft timing gear nylon teeth may be breaking off and going into the lower part of the oil pan, blocking off the oil pickup tube screen. Oil starvation.

SOURCE: I have a 1991 GMC C1500 5.7L 350. oil pressure switch

You might try a sending unit socket, or try to break off the upper plastic part of the sensor, to try to get a socket on it. I've had luck with a pair of Channel Lock pliers.

check fuel pump for proper pressure....Also very common is a bad o2 sensor not allowing enough fuel.

If it has a bunch of miles on witch I'm guessing it probably does you can try to adjust your rocker arms. This seems to more of an art then I science for me, I always have to have someone help me. See *** the cam, push rods, & lifters ware the rocker arms loosen up some. It was explained to me that you just want them tight enough you can still see them rattling around has to be done with engine running and valve covers off. Make sure you have at least a couple quarts of oil laying around.

here is a video on how to do hydraulic lifters http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSR36fmBR6M

More instruction can be found online or maybe you have a friend that is experienced in adjusting them.

Question edited for clarity, typos, and added some sentences.

It could be. If there is a lot of play, the valves might not be opening enough, especially the Intake valve, letting fuel in.

I have a 2003 gmc Sierra half ton 4.8 liter that has a knock that sounds like lifters

There is,If you do the lifter you could be after something else,The noise sounds like a collapsed lifter,A collapse lifter can cause a misfire,The 2003 GMC sierra or I should say the 4.8 engines suffer from a cut O-ring between the oil pump screen and the oil pump causing oil areation, resulting in lifter noise,The noise will be present a cold start and then diminish at warm up.12_3_2012_8_08_44_am.gif

Have you changed oil and oil filter? If you have a lot of miles on the oil, try changing....also, when you change add a bottle of Marvel Mystery Oil (be sure to "short fill" the oil by an amount equal to the Marvel Mystery Oil) so as to not overfill the crankcase.
