Where is the fuel gage float in 2002 Intrigue

Is there an access panel to change this...it works with gas light coming on when we know that there is gas in it since I had just pumped it in. According to other sources it tells us that it should be working if the fuel gage jumps from full to empty. Also, the low fuel warning light comes on as we are driving vehicle...frustrating.

SOURCE: 2002 OLDS SILHOUETTE

The problem is usually one or the other.  Both get 5 volts from the engine computer.  If the problem is the gas gauge, you'll have to change the sender in the tank.  Generally, an aftermarket pump/sender unit is $150-175.  Get one and drop the tank to install.  The temp gauge is another matter and it could be dirty coolant.  If both are going nuts together, you'll need a new computer.  Junk units are fine.

SOURCE: Gas Gauge not working properly

First...how do you get 25 mpg...I get 21 or so!!!!  Additives will never work on this.  The price for the pump is $150-175 for an aftermarket unit.
I just did the tank job for the sender.  Get an aftermarket pump/sender.  DO NOT ORDER from RockAuto for this part...their listing is wrong.  They send the gasket...which comes with the replacement.  Replacing the unit is relatively easy:

  • Have less than 5 gals of gas in the tank.
  • Get the driver's side of the car in the air and support it.
  • Remove plugs to the left of the tank on the bottom of the vehicle
  • Start car and allow gas pressure to subside...car will stall
  • Remove the fill pipe from the left rear of the tank..there is a valve on the fill pipe which will contain all but a few drops of gas
  • support the tank and remove the bolts that hold the tank straps and lower the tank.
  • lower the tank and remove the vent hose at the rear of the tank so you can swing it out
  • after swinging it out, prepare to remove the unit from the top of the tank retaining the connector snap ons for the new unit.  Clean the area around the pump to remove the possibility of contamination.  Tap the ring sharply counterclockwise to remove it from the tank.
  • Remove old and install new, pressing the unit into the tank...be sure to use that new gaaket they gave you.  Tap on ring, swing tank back, reconnect hoses, raise and bolt up.  Plug in.
  • Start the car after turning key and waiting for 15 seconds to start so pressure can build.
I did it in 3 hours.  If you have help for liffting and all that, probably 2..2 1/2

SOURCE: fuel gage

Before you replace the sending unit try a bottle of Chevron's Techron Concentrate Plus to 12 gallons of gas in the tank. GM now recommends the use of a fuel additive (GM Fuel System Treatment Plus - part number 88861012) at each oil change which will help dissolve sulfur deposits on fuel tank sending units which causes the fuel gauge to go wacky. But Techron does the same thing as GM's additive and is widely available at auto stores and Walmart. See their site:

SOURCE: 99 olds alero; fuel pump and inst. panel isn't getting power

fuel shutoff switch is actually a fuel pump relay in the relay box under the hood, but it is not unusual for a fuel pump to work on and off before it finally dies. but it is a good idea to check the relay first.

try swapping it with the horn relay (if the horn works). pay attention to the direction the relay is in. on GM's, it's possible to put them in backward or even miss the connectors completely.

you also want to check for proper power and ground in the relay socket.

SOURCE: olds intrigue warning lights on...

It is a sign that you either have a bad wheel bearing or 1 off your speed censors on 1 of the tires is bad, I just had this problem with my olds alero, but it was a wheel bearing that needed replaced.

Gas gage dont work on my 1985 nissan 300zx

check the fuse and relay switch for the instrument cluster, which includes the fuel gauge. if they are okay, and no check engine light comes on,then the float in the gas tank, which gives you your reading,is stuck and needs replaced.

Gas gage isnt right it keeps floating

The Sorento gs tank is under the floor in the back seat. Flip the seat bottom's forward and pull open the Velcro to access the top of the tank. The fuel pump and sender may be accessible from the top, but you might be unlucky and have t remove the tank.

I have a 2002 Ford Taures and the gas gage goes on empty intermittantly. Then the check engine light goes on. I have flex fuel and don't know how to trouble shoot the problem I can restart the car and most...

i know that if the gas cap is loose then the check engine light will come on. as far as the fuel gauge going up and down the "float" you have in your tank could be getting stuck. This is a pain in the rear to change because you will have to drop the fuel tank and either replace the part connected (best bet) to it or make sure the passage is clear.

I know if your gas cap is leaking the low fuel light will come on but I never heard of the gas guage showing empty unless you have a float problem. The float is in the tank.

Fuel gage

Classic symptom of a failing sending unit. It's inside the tank and on most cars it's replaceable separate from the fuel pump. I usually see them in the $45-75 range. Some cars have an access panel under the rear seat or in the trunk, where others require the fuel tank to be dropped - I'm not sure offhand which your car requires, however.
