Brake lights dont work

Have replaced brake light bulbs, and checked fuses and brake lights dont work, all other lights do work.

  • Anonymous Jan 08, 2009

I have the same problem. The high brake light works though. But the low ones will not work .The running lights work.It is not a fuse.

I have a similar problem on my 94 accord. my high mount light works, only the side brake lights does not work. Bulbs are good, fuse is good. I wonder if its the brake switch, but then my high mount light shouldn't also work as per the circuit diagram....not sure what to do. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, One thing you can do. Use a volt/ohm meter to check for 12v while someone steps on the brake. Also clean cantacts in socket with fine sandpaper. (emory or 300) sandpaper

Brake lights not working & can't find any bad fuses,& brake light switch replaced

why was brake light switch replaced? you need to check things before replacement. is the brake light switch getting power? if not the fuse is blown. if it is getting power, is power going out? if so, check for power at the bulbs, if no power find out why, if the bulbs do have power, they are not getting ground. the ground wire is in trunk, I really dont know exact location. may be near high mounted brake light.

Just had a similar problem. Brake (stop) lights and horn didn't work. Couldn't find mention of stop lights in fuse chart. Found horn fuse to be slot 21 in the engine fuse block (not the fuse block in car interior). Replaced 15A fuse and all now ok.

Did you check or replace the brake light bulbs?
It is more common to have burnt bulbs than a bad brake light switch or blown fuse.
Do you have orange signal lights and red brake lights at the rear?
Then the signal light switch will not affect the brake lights.....but....
If they are all red and you use the same bulbs for brake and signal....the brake light wiring goes through the signal light switch and could be affected there.
First....check for power getting to the brake light switch......and leaving it with a test light.......then go to the rear....pull a light assembly and check for power getting to the bulbs.no power? follow the wiring back to the switch looking for a bad connection.
The fuses and relays under the hood are usually in a black plastic box labeled fuses and or relays.

Brake light dont work

check the fuse for the brake lights. The brake lights and siganl lights use the same bulb filament. The parking and running lights use a dimmer filament in the bulb. There are 2 filaments.
Your brake lights work through the multifunction switch which operates the signal lights. If the signal lights work, you may have a bad brake lamp switch which is on your brake pedal arm.

Brake lights dont work

Look for broken wires or with a test light. follow the wires checking from the fuse box back to the brake lights checking every so often in between the light wires and the fuse box.
