If you have set the tension correcly when replacing the belt there are a couple of things that could be going on. #1 it is possible that the belt itself is the wrong length or width. Be sure that the belt you have is a good replacement for your make and model. Also I have repaired a vehicle that had this problem and it was because of the tension roller was freezing up and not moving the belt along properly so replacing that roller fixed the problem. Also, if the angle of one of the aspects of what the belt goes over is slightly cockeyed it can cause the belt to come off as well. I would suspect the length or width of that belt is your problem. Make sure that you have the correct belt, set the tension properly, check all the angles of the devices it rolls over and make sure nothing is slow, bound or not moving(frozen up) and this problem should be fixed. Good Luck

hi Jo,the power steering is powered by the fanbelt and if its slipping will cause it to go heavy but a light would come up on the dash to tell you the alternator was not charging.so if not the belt,it could be the electrics for the pwr steering need looking into, this is easier to get on the dealers diagnostic computer which will show up the exact fault.and would save any guesswork.

A belt keeps slipping off and the power steering no longer works.

Check to see that no bolts or mounting brackets are loose causing the power steering pump to be out of alignment with the rest of the pulleys. When replacing the belt make sure it is seated correctly on the pulley because if it is one ridge off it will cause the belt to shred very quickly.

How do I get the PWR steering belt off. Did miss a bolt or nut?

It's possible that you missed a bolt or nut combination if the belt doesn't come loose immediately after loosening a bolt. Keep looking, you'll find it.

The tensioner is spring loaded and there is no setting. It floats with the belt. It's the pully with no groves that applies pressure to the back of the belt. Good luck. and be carefull.

Cant find which pulley to move to get belt on

Unfortunately,this car does'nt have a tensioner
pulley. You have to loosen the alternator to remove that belt, if the pwr steering belt ever goes bad, your going to have to loosen the pwr steering pump to remove that belt.

The a/c pwr steering drive belt keeps coming off on my 1996 mitsubishi eclipse

Check to see if there is a pulley that does not turn in the belt path, fix the affected part. Check to see if the belt is properly routed, see belt routing diagram uder the hood. visually inspect to see if the belt is running "true", or in-line. Some times when a sub-assembly such as the alternator is replaced the new part is slightly different in manufacture so as to make a problem with the drive belt alignment, and some minor tweeking can fix the problem. also make sure any conectors(bolt's) are tight.
