Original radio wiring harness

I have a 1991 Volvo 240 and I am trying to install the original radio back in. Two aftermarket radios were previously installed and both stolen. The latest thieves ripped the radio from the dash pulling apart a lot of wires. I am able to get power to the radio, but the speakers are stumping me. I'm assuming the factory amp was bypassed when the aftermarket radios were installed. How do I get the OE radio to work again?

Google Volvo wiring diagram. They are available free. The diagram shows the wire location and colors. Otherwise, run a continuity test with a simple meter to discover a connection with some resistance between a pair of wires. If you here a click or two, from the speakers, you have found the right pair. Continue and label the pairs left, right, front, rear, until all are identified. Then reconnect. A pain but not rocket science.

After Market Radio Installation

Hey man, you have an amplified system. use a 70-1858 wiring harness and jump the blue/white wire from the aftermarket radio to the pink wire on the second plug. this will power on the factory amp with the aftermarket radio.

You can buy aftermarket plugs that will plug in to your harness and have the radio wires on the new plug. This keeps you from cutting your harness and reinstalling your factory , if you decide to.

I want to change my original cd player for a pioneer

This is because you need to purchase the aftermarket-oem harness plug. This harness plugs into your original equipment radio harness and allows you to plug any aftermarket radio into the stock deck wires. After you plug the harness in you can then connect the radio wires together.Your local autoparts store or circuit city or best buy or audio express will have these radio conversion plugs.I hope I could help

Car audio wiring diagram for 1998 volvo s-70

CLICK HERE for your vehicles full service manual. If you are cutting wires.
Be warned your vehicle has a factory amplifier installed, and needs to be bypassed to hear the speakers if you are just wiring behind the dash.
Metra makes a harness you install on the aftermarket radio, then simply plug into the vehicle's harness.
All the wires are labeled for easy installation.

70-9220 is the metra part number. Click on the number to see an eBay auction.
