Hi,
You would probably have better luck getting a Auto-electrician to make up a whole new loom and use the old fiber covering for an authentic look.

I fitted a new engine in my ford focus 1.6 tdci it came complete with wiring loom but the loom fitted the ECU but it was wrong for the unit would this damage the ECU

If the wire harness (loom) were the correct one (from Ford?), it should have fit perfectly. If it's not a Ford or Motorcraft part, you probably should return it and get the correct part.

I have fitted a 1994 7.3 litre efi engine into a 1990 f150 and was wondering if i have 2 use the complete wiring loom out of the f350 where the engine came from or is there anyway of grafting the engine...

if you contact a ford dealer parts dept, they will give you a printout of the wiring diagrams and color code specs for each vehicle,, the loom on the 350 will have a slight variance of color codes and wires for pretty much the same setups depending on year and model,, Normally I would say yes, But when it comes to harnesses and what all the specified models have as far as accessories comes into play, I would consult the 2 wiring diagrams for subtle changes

2003 ford ranger edge, when steering column is lowered, turn signals and brake lights will not work. when raised back up, will work fine. any help would be apppreciated.

It sounds like there is an intermittent connection in the wiring loom at the base of the steering columna at the hinge where it tilts. Check for any loose plastic interconnection blocks or chafed or broken wires in the wiring loom around the base of the column. Jiggling the loom may help to isolate the area at fault. You may have to unwind the tape around the loom to find exactly where the problem is. Repair as necessary. You may have to splice in a bit of wire if there are any broken wires. Wrap any bare wires with tape to prevent any shorts.

I have just re-fitted the dashboard into my '49 Chrysler Windsor,(RHD Canadian Export, lots of De Soto parts on it),and found the labels I wrote have faded and run. I can't tell which wire goes...

With all due respect, may I just suggest pausing for a reality check?

You're asking how to refit a dash to a sixty year old car and the dash is both for an export RHD model and is not even standard and is highly likely to have been modified to some degree since it left the factory. You're asking this on a website where we cannot post even simple diagrams and where any answers you do get may well be incorrect, and where mistakes could cause a fire in the wiring loom.

This is a great site, and volunteers like me do the best we can to help folks fix things themselves but in this case there is only one safe and solid answer: get a specialist auto-electrician in. You can tailor the service by either getting the dash fully fitted or just asking for the wires to be re-labelled.

Note that faded sixty year old wiring looms are not to be relied upon and you are strongly advised to remove it to use as a pattern to fabricate a new one with. As long as you use the correct wire ratings and are methodical this is not a difficult job but it is a bit time consuming. This could either be done using modern wiring materials or there are pricier modern materials which have the appearance of vintage textile braided wiring. Remember that the loom wrapping will hide most of the wiring used so unless the car has to be 100% original there's no drawback in using modern fire-resistant thin wall pvc wiring. Remaking the loom also restores the wiring colours and allows for more fuse protection and load reducing relays to be fitted; these can usually be hidden away to preserve the original appearance if desired. Many classic car insurers will refuse to pay out for a wiring related incident if a perished loom is refitted after an overhaul, and if you can prove that additional safety features have been correctly installed they'll often reduce the annual premiums.

I hope that you can take this answer in the spirit in which it's intended, and understand that the additional advice does directly relate to the information which you've given in your question. To omit the advice would have been irresponsible.

Good luck, and you have my sympathies: I'm just nearing the end of a six-year long restoration of a 1946 Lagonda 2.5 litre Mk1.

Wiring in a tow bar

First I'm sure that a Festiva should probably only be towing body weight, But if you want to hook up a wiring loom for towing I would suggest buying a 4 lug loom from a auto store, then I would get a chilton or haynes manual to get the wiring diagram (or internet) then wire it up with **** connectors and electrical tape.
