I'm in the middle of fitting a genuine Kia towbar (made by Witter) to my SW. ... Need help again - Does anyone know the location of the PDC Control unit (parking sensors)? ... Drives: Kia Ceed SW 1.6 MT LX A8 ... with the loom which connects to the fuse box does not seem to attach to the rear lighting loom.
you shouldnt need to remove the rear valance to fit a towbar ,i would suggest you contact a authorised towbar fitting workshop as it is not permitted to fit a towbar yourself ,it has to be done by a company with the correct authorised dealership as the towbar has to be certified with a europeon certificate of homoglonation and a plaque .then vehicle has to be presented at the vehicle inspection station for conformity .Then the paperwork of the vehicle changed to show its fitted with a towing hitch and a fee paid for this service .also the electrics have to be connected by a auto electrician as every annual vehicle inspection the electrics are tested as well where a towbar is fitted .
towbar on a disco 2 is a straight forward bolt on job it attaches to the rear chassis and crossmember any good quality towbar kit will come with all bolts and washers you need plus instructions . if you get genuine landrover electrics they plug straight in without having to cut or join any wires.
remove the rear bumper and the bar bolts to the back panel, some have a stay that bolts up forward. you might have to cut a slot in the bottom of the bumper to clear the towbar.
Firstly you need to know the make of the towbar, then you can download the fitting instructions from the towbar manufacturers website. As far as electrics are concerned, I would recommend NOT using the secondhand electrics that you have unless you have a dedicated plug-in wiring kit as the wires were probably cut and may now be too short to use and the sockets may not be in tiptop condition, It's well worth the small expense af replacing them. The actual wiring will depend on what year and model the car is.
I assume that the towbar didn't come with a proper wiring kit as, unfortunately there is not a specific connector for the towbar wiring on the x-type, the proper Vehicle Specific Kit plugs into the rear light. There is a power connector with three pins on the left and a grey reverse sensor cut out connector also on the left. but you will either need to use a Vehicle Specific Wiring kit (about £175) or use a bypass relay system.
Yes you do need to remove the bumper, remove the 2 torxs screws in each wheelarch, 1 upper bolt and 1 lower bolts behind the wheelarch liner each side. two nuts inside car each side along upper edge, 4 nuts behind trim on rear edge, and 3 plastic plugs along lower edge. Hope this helps
