Isuzu bighorn 4jx1 engine wont start accumulates oil i the impeller emits too much smoke in the exhaust
Its a diesel and its running away so do not try to start till you do the following and yes i know i will be amolished for being a cowboy by the other experts but what you do is to make a gasket for the EGR valve from a coca cola can and seal it off if you dont it may run away and blow itself to pieces .If you do this then it run as normal as the older trucks never had these thing fitted and they all run ok in my day ,exactly whats wron i couldnt tell you without my head under the bonnet but do as i say and it run perfectly
tnx colin stickland. we'll try what you have suggested. may i ask you if the breather of the 4jx1 engine is on the top of the valve cover going through the air filter. we are from the philippines. and the mechanics here dont know what else to do. we already tried starting it w/out the air filter but it still accumulates oil in the turbo coming from the exhaust. the oil in it is mixed w/ diesel fuel.. tnx for your info.

if the exhaust is filling with oil and diesel then i couldnt be sure as without seeing it my self its difficult to say ,if your geting oil and diesel up the exhaust and when you do det it to run its running away then you have a serious problem ,cannot say i can remember where all the parts are on this bighorn as only ever done one in all my life and that was a few years ago then only a service at that ,If you have oil in the ehhaust side of the turbo is their oil in the inlet side if no then its a problem with the engine and if yes then its the turbo ,what you could do is to disconnect the turbo and block off the oil feed pipe and try starting it then ,Now another thing to try is to remove the injectors and the rocker cover now make yourself a rubber tube that fits into the injector hole or a broom handle with a hole drilled down the middle then turn engine to no1 with both valves closed and blow compressed air down the home made adaptor and see if the air escapes either up the exhaust or inlet manifolds or the adjacent injector hole this will tell you if you have damage anywhere like a piston burnt or valves leaking or a head gasket ,which thinking about it ???? oil pressure feed to the valves the oil passes through a hole in the gasket to the top of the head in extreme cases i have seen the oil ending up in the nearest piston and be blown out without hydraulicing the piston .I know some of the other experts will no doubt amolish me for giving this compresed air advice and making your own adaptor as its not the done thing by a dealer mechanic but iam a old fleet fitter where the vehicle has to go to work at 07.00 am the folliowng morning .Now give it a rest for a day ,have a coffee and a ciggy then have another look
Hi Anthony, Sorry for sticking my nose in Colin. The 4JX1 is a common rail diesel injected engine. The injectors operate with electronic commands from the management system. The Oil Rail Pressure Sensor which is situated on the oil rail,(which is fitted inside the tappet cover and fitted over the injectors together with the high pressure fuel and oil delivery pump are the most likely places where fuel and engine oil mix. I suggest the replacement of the gasket washers as a first action of remedy The second area should be the high pressure pump which pumps both engine oil and fuel up to the fuel rail. As you've experienced acceleration run away, I suggest identifying and cutting the cable to crankshaft and cam shaft sensors. Once cut,, making sure they cannot cause a short circuit, strip a little insulation from the cables and join each together with a dry splice, so that either can be pulled apart in the event of a runaway. In that event the crank sensor is the one to choose. Regards John

White smoke is usually a sign of coolant burning. Carefully open the coolant cap, sniff the inside. If there is an exhaust smell you more than likely have head gasket problems. A further diagnosis is needed to be sure. Also ensure that any wires/plugs are reconnected. If the oil sensor is unplugged the vehicle wont start.

the engine oil pumps are in the rear of the engine(trans out) and behind flexplate /flywheel, were any of these 2 engine oil pumps touched if so the flywheel /flexplate has to be timed to crankshaft position, so you might have it in the wrong position, if your talking about the diesel lift pump (injector pump) that also supplies high pressure engine oil to injectors, after replacing this there is a learn procedure for the rail pressure control valve that is on pump. this can only be done by dealer or some one with Tech2 scanner tool.

engine goes wild after a while of starting the engine and the engine wont turn off in the ignition
it is a diesel fueled engine
accumulates oil in the turbo shaft and the impeller. causing the turbo to break. we already changed the turbo twice due to his problem. please help us.
Have to think about this one but if excessive oil as you say then i think its time to pull the head off and grind the valves in and check the piston float on each piston at tdc as you may need a new set of rings as well ,new valve guide seals as well maybe even new valve springs as this sort of oil build up in the turbo has to be coming from somewhere and a worn engine is the only possibility .Not a lot else will cause this except worn bearings in the turbo but you have changed it twice already so it looks like a engine rebuild is on the cards
rght i was tired last night ,too much work for an old man like me anyway check the engine breather where it comes into the inlet air filter and then see if its all oily and weither the cold air/hot air flap is open and not jammed closed as this would allow the intake to draw the air for the engine from the internal of the engine sucking in the oil ,have seen this in extreme case like a fordD series turbo truck some 40 yrs ago where someone had tried to start it with a lighted rag and it got sucked in the air filter
but we already tried to start the engine w/out the turbo and it wont start. tnx anyway. we will try what you've suggested... hope it will work. tnx again
