Anyone know how to reprogram a key fob or disconnect the alarm sytem on a 1999 Vauxhall Astra Estate

1999 vauxhall astra, key fob not working so alarm goes off each time you open the car, attempted to change battery in the fob and reprogram the fob by inserting it in to the ignition and holding down both button for 30 seconds, friends recommendation, didn't make any difference, at the point now where I would rather just disconnect the alarm system as I'm confident no one would be that bothered about stealing the car but I have no idea how to disconnect. Any solutions to th eproblem or how to disconnect the alarm syatem would be greatly appreciated.

I am not 100% certain but resyncing the key fob won't necessarily affect the alarm which is likely to be integrated with the immobiliser - I think all it does is make the central locking work.

In addition to the key plip for the central locking, the key also contains a transponder chip that I believe is like a grain of rice and can be easily lost when taking the key apart to change the battery.

The transponder chip requires no power from the battery and is not connected to it in any way. It is programmed to the code of the immobiliser with dedicated equipment and is recognised when the key is inserted into the ignition.

Even if you manage to disconnect the alarm the embedded immobiliser is still likely to prevent the engine starting.

SOURCE: vauxhall astra horn

The problem is in the loom in the steering wheel, it requires removal of the airbag and a new wheel loom to be fitted. The loom costs about £15.00 I think.

Resync key fob on vauxhall astra after battery change

Hi there, put the key in the ignition and turn the key to position 2 (so the lights come on the dashboard and you will have to make sure all the doors are closed before doing it). Then just either hold down the lock or unlock button down on the keyfob until the key syncs with the central locking, the car might lock and unlock itself with the button pressed down. That should be it. Let me know if it works

When should cam belt be changed on 1999 vauxhall astra 1.6 16v car. I am looking to buy car with 61000 mileage and 7 stamps by vauxhall dealer. Seller doesn't know if belt has been done. Thanks

For 1999 Vauxhall Astra 1.6 16V timing belt replacement interval is: 60000 km (37500 miles), or 48 months (4 years). Replace also tensioner roller, (the same interval) !
If you don't know precisely if timing belt has been done, then replace it obligatory !!!

Please rate my response. Thanks!
