SATURN EMISSIONS LIGHT

The emission light comes on when the computer detects a leak or malfunctioning part in the system. It can come on due to a loose gas cap to a disconnected hose. There a lot of things that make this light come on. IS the check engine light on/flashing? If so, you may have a misfire causing the shake. If the engine light is on, have the codes scanned to isolate the problem.

The most common problem is a leak in the evap system which vents the fumes in the gas tank to the vapor canister.
Sometimes its a loose or faulty gas cap.

You'll need to find out what code has been stored. Some auto parts stores will have a scanner that you can use. It could be an evaporative emission code that will turn on the light but the engine will still run fine. If fumes are escaping from a leaking evap system the light will come on. It could be something as simple as a loose gas cap.

a bad plug or wire will cause a cyl misfire. also, the emissions syst is a sealed one, so if you are prone to leaving the gas cap off at the gas station, your'e asking for trouble down the road.loose gas cap will pop a light.

Two things you want to know about the check engine light on any vehicle. One is it's an emission warning. The most common cause is a loose gas cap, make sure it clicks when you gas up. Second, is that being an emissions light, is that it'll require some test equipment to find the problem if you checked the gas cap and it's tight. You will want to do that at your friendly Dodge dealer. Why? They'll not only know what it is, it might be fixed free in the emissions warranty which has some parts that are covered longer than the vehicle's regular warranty. The shop on the corner doesn't do warranty work and they're not going to tell you if it might be covered.

you can easily replace it yourself for 50. it just unbolts and you bolt the new one on. You might have to remove a couple of things but nothing too hard,
