I doubt it's the inertia switch.

Your Audi will only power the fuel pump for two seconds when the ignition is switched on, then will power it again during engine cranking, then it will run continuously once the engine has started. Any other time, it won't have power.
The relays can occasionally fail. These can be tested with power across the trigger terminals and listening/feeling a clickibg noise. You'd need to consult a manual to determine which relay/s are involved. Should be the same as the equivalent era A3.

You can hotwire the fuse with a battery live power wire (It should have probe accessible terminals on the top) to test the operation of the pump.

It is in the end of the dash board. open the drivers door so you can see the end of the dash and ease the semi circle shaped cover off. There is a fuse pulling tool in there too ;o

SOURCE: 2005 Audi TT Master Fuse location

Had a similar problem audi come into my shop.  No headlights, blower motor would not work, wipers would not work.  After dinking around found ignition switch wires had burn't up.  Remove top steering column by taking out two very small philips screws from under column.  Look at top LH side of column w/ top cover removed.  Probably will find wires burnt up.

SOURCE: location of fuel filter on a 2001 audi tt quattro

On a 2001 Audi TT Quattro the fuel filter is located forward of the fuel tank, in the right rear wheel well area. The fuel line clamps are a bit tricky. The change will improve performance. The owners manual does not even list changing the filter. But do it! use a Fram, and it fit perfectly. Good luck.

SOURCE: 2003 Audi TT No electric power to fuel pump/ignition

When your tmming belt went dint that bend the valves.Do a comprestion test firstly. As this is a interferance engine.when the belt snaps the likely of valve to piston contact is very likely. Also change the camshaft sensor.

Fuel pump relay

Located under the steering wheel. The fuse should be #28 and the relay will have 167 or 409 on it. Here is a link to a wire diagram for the TT

No fuel

Check fuse #28 and fuel relay has been a problem spot with the TT. Relay should be located in the mini panel under the steering column, relay #167 or 409. Try to reseat the relay. Here is a link to a TT wire diagram.

Next would be one of the 2 fuel pumps located under the back seat. There you will find the access covers to the sending units/fuel pumps.
