I guess I discribed it incorrectly. It is the rear lift gate. It is not the automatic one. One suggestion was to pop out the round plug on the bottom trim and push a lever. I can not find any trip lever (I had my son look too )

there is a trip lever in there, but can be hard to find it, usually a small screwdriver works best, usually push it side-ways but dont remember left or right, almost think it was towards pass. side .

We are still unable to locate anything that resembles a lever. we pushed and jiggled anything that we found. no luck

    Liftgate Trim Panel Plug

    Procedure

    1.

From inside the vehicle lower the second and third, if applicable, row seats.

    2.

Use a small flat-bladed tool to remove the access plug from the liftgate lower interior trim panel.

    3.

Push on a silver lever located on the right just through the access hole to unlock the liftgate.

    4.

Open the liftgate from the outside of the vehicle using the exterior handle.

From inside or outside ? if won't open from inside your child safety lock is probably tripped. if won't open from outside you probably have a lock rod that popped off inside the door, in which I would have the dealer fix it, it involves taking door pad off and when you can't open door to take pad off ,most of the time it damages it.

My daughter's 2009 Acadia - the back hatch will not open. We've tried using the key remote to unlock it, using the door switch to unlock - all to no avail. Suggestions?

I have similar issue with Smart Forfour. Its the electrics - there is a faulty connection between lock and brain. We removed the interior panels and applied a voltage independently to release the lock.
Replacing the mechanism did not solve the issue, as its a wiring harness problem. Now have a "string" attached to the lock mechanism which we use to open the hatch from inside.

My 2009 GMC Acadias dome lights are not working when I open the doors.....what am I missing?? I have read the manual about 5 times and followed what it said with no luck :(

Usually this happens when somebody pushes the wrong button to turn on/off the dome or map lights. On my car (not an Acadia) there is a button marked "Off" and another marked "Door." If you push "Off," you not only turn off the dome lights, you stop them from turning on when you open the doors. To correct this you have to push "Door." Not what you would expect a button marked "Door" to do, right? I'll bet there's something similar going on with your car.

Where is the battery located in a 2011 Acadia?

The Acadia's battery is beneath the floor behind the front passenger seat.
Slide that seat all the way forward, then open the rear passenger door. If you've got a floor mat directly behind the front seats, it will have to be moved aside. There is a panel on the floor with one screw holding it closed. Remove this panel to access the battery compartment.

When i open the rear door for my 2009 GMC Acadia, the door goes up and stops for 2 seconds and comes back down.. Rear door doesn't stay up... what should I do?

First thing I would do is check on your warrentee. Looks like there is a good chance it is covered.

Call them and ask. Have you vin number ready they probly will want it. Located on the sales slip, on back of the drivers door, on your registration card or look throught the windsheild from outside in the drivers side lower corner.
