Xterra no oil pressure

I have a 2000 nissan xterra v6 2wd and it has lost oil pressure. I was driving home from work one day and the oil light came on and heard ticking from the engine. I stopped at auto zone and added a quart, but noticed the oil pan leaking severely. I assumed that the gasket was bad so i had it replaced. didnt fix it. leak is not as bad but there is still no pressure. I would assume the oil sending screen is clogged, but not sure, as the guy didnt bother to check while the pan was off. I went ahead and ordered an oil pump from nissan. these things would be my guess, but im no mechanic. Any ideas???
also how much should the repair cost?

Had a faulty oil pressure sensor. The gauge pegged and wouldn't move. It was replaced three days ago and was working fine. Now today when driving it drops then rises and occasionally the oil light flickers...

You really need to check it with a oil pressure gauge. It would be a good idea to change the part again,it could be at fault even though it is new, cause it is having a different symptom .

My 2000 Nissan xterra started shaking while idling and the service engine light came on. I changed the oil and it feels better. It doesnt knock In neutral or park. It also rattles till you hit about 30...

Also- the rattle is most likely the valve lifters. The lifters on this engine and the model previous (I have owned both to 180k miles or more) lose pressure when the motor is off. They re-pressureize with engine oil after the motor starts and tap a little until they "pump up" to full size. Just don't drive until the rattle dies down and as long as it is under 30 seconds or so- you will be fine there.

The oil light came on today when i started my 2003 xterra

The oil light comes on when there is no pressure. There is no pressure when the pump either cannot get oil to pump or has oil and will not pump it.

Get it checked before you do anything else. A engine running with no pressure is a cooked engine.

The oil pressure light on my 2004 nissan xterra stays

if the switch has been repaced then u most likely really have an oil pressure problem, you will neded to hook up a test mechanical oil pressure guage and verify the actual pressure, I suspect you will end up replacing the oil pump, the inlet screen may be clogged with dirt or the pump is worn out or has a stuck pressure regualtor valve.

9 times out of 10 it is nothing. My engine light stays on. If it really bothers you then you can take it to any oil change place and there is a sequence that they do.`

2000 Nissan Xterra has power but then dies

I suggest you begin by charging and testing the battery, your description indicates it is discharged.

Why it is discharged remains to be seen - you need to check the alternator drive belt and the alternator charging.
