The temperature cooling sensor, The sensor's output is monitored by the engine computer to regulate various ignition, fuel and emission control functions, and to turn the radiator-cooling fan on and off as needed. check this first ! also check the fan relay in relay box. it may be sticking in the on position. hard to say without being there. but try the above things. good-day ! the fans come on if a/c is on.

SOURCE: the fan motors keeps running after car is shut off. Also sometimes fans start when car is started cold.

I had the same thing happen to me...fans would run even when car turned off. Was the thermostat. Got one with high temp-92* I think, it did the trick!

SOURCE: my 2005 mazda mpv's fan

A lot of times this will happen as the fans are not linked to the ignition switch at all. This is simply cooling the engine down with air. There's a thermal switch that tells the fans to turn on when the water reaches a certain temperature. At this temperature; the fans will engage causing an increase in cooling on your coolant system.

A lot of times this is just simply because of the weather, however, many other factors could be causing this problem. Overheating is a serious problem and should be dealt with quickly. However, usually this is just a sign of hotter temperatures.

This list is a possible set of variables you could be getting this from.

- Ambient (outside) temperature to high for cooling to effectively cool the engine while running
- Low oil causing increased friction within the engine.
- Old cooling fluid cannot provide adequate cooling
- Restricted radiator not allowing enough airflow to keep cooling system working properly
- Low cooling fluid or leak of some sort
- Overloaded vehicle (too much weight causing excessive stress on the engine)
- Binding transmission or brakes somewhere causing excessive stress on the engine
- Excessive throttle usage (driving it like a race car)

Those are some things that will make the engine run hot. It's most likely not running too hot for the engine, but however the cooling system just isn't able to control it to the point where the thermal switch turns the fans off and you must let it sit until they do switch off. As I said before, you most likely have no control over the fans unless you rewire them without the thermal switch engaging and disengaging them which I do not recommend doing.

SOURCE: DTC P0106 mazda protege. code came on, cleared

Check connections etc at MAP sensor. If all good, replace it. Erase codes & retry. How's vehicle running, idling, any black smoke out tailpipe?

SOURCE: I am getting a P0031, P1512, & P0421 code

P0031 - most likely pointing to a failed O2 sensor (bank 1 sensor 1 is located before the catalytic converter)

P0421 - failed catalytic converter or a failed O2 sensor

P1512 - intake manifold shutter valve is stuck - may be caused by the O2 sensor, but may not

I recommend replacing your O2 sensor first and see what happens

The fan motors keeps running after car is shut off. Also sometimes fans start when car is started cold.

If the fans didn't run any further the engine continues to warm and possible seizure will occur. This is also the reason you will probably go through batteries in the long run. Hopefully this helps the issue you are having.

My 2005 mazda mpv's fan does not shut off after the ignition is turned off. I must turn the ignition back to the starting position and then off again or the fan will continue to run for several minutes...

I have a 2003 MPV with the same problem. There was a recall in 2004 to replace the fan controller module, which apparently would fail regularly. I had mine replaced under the recall although there were no symptoms at the time. Now it appear that the replacement has failed, but I've already used the recall and you can only do it once. Even though your warranty is up the recall still applies if your car is of the model that qualifies. Call your dealer, and he can tell you if you are eligible. It is almost certainly the problem. I don't care how you drive or what the temperature is, your fan shouldn't run immediately after starting or run for more than a couple of minutes after you shut it off.
