My jeep is an 04 with 95,000 miles. When I start it it starts fine, but I have to hold the key a little longer and press the gas. And as I pull out, it acts like it doesnt want to go (Sputtering) Then after I accelerate, it drives fine. The check engine light just came on today, and the problem began a week ago. Any information?
When the check engine light is on, there's a trouble code stored in the computer. Asking us to guess which of the more than 1,000 possible codes is a fool's game. Get the trouble codes read. And test the engine coolant temp sensor to see if it's reporting an accurate temp at cold startup. You may have several problems going on here

If you happend to open the door or unlock from the inside. you might of activated the theft shut down alarm. Try unlocking and locking the driver door a couple times then taking your key phob, lock and relock the doors until it armed. unlock it then see what happens

TRY CHECKING THE WIRE CONNECTORS ON THE PCM WHICH IS LOCATED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FIREWALL. IT HAS THREE LARGE MULTI-WIRE CONNECTORS HELD IN PLACE BY THREE BOLTS. WIGGLE THE CONNECTORS WHILE TIGHTENING THE BOLTS CAREFULLY SO AS NOT TO BREAK THE FRAGILE PLASTIC ENDS. HOPE THIS SOLVES THE PROBLEM. KEEP ME POSTED PLEASE. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA. GOOD LUCK

OK that's different...First, you will need to check the battery for 12v. (no testing can be done without proper voltage there) Lights working does not tell you this.
You will need to do a code check before replacing any parts. Without testing there are numerous possible causes and it will cost you $$$ to replace all of them before "hitting" on the right solution. (you just found that out by replacing the pump.) There are other individual component tests you can do using a digital volt/ohmeter.
Offhand, the first place I'd check is the crankshaft position sensor. They are notorious for this kind of failure BUT don't replace it till you test it! post back with any questions and results you get. (in other words, we are not finished yet!!)

try cleaning the mass air flow sensor located in the intake tube by the air filter
SOURCE: Holds idle fine but stalls when accelerating
your carburetor should have a fuel filter in the carburetor body where the
fuel line enters it replace it and, any other in-line fuel filter the engine might have

It only sputters when i accelerate from stop. When traveling it does not sputter at all!
