1990 g20 van with a 5.7 ,it was getting too much fuel and flooding , the regulator spring was broken , i replaced the fuel regulator and spring, fuel injectors , fuel idle sensor , temp switch , egr is new also , van gets fuel and spark , turns over great, good compression , just had a new cat converter installed 3 weeks ago . but will not start , what else do i need to check ??
Is it sparking when and where it should? Checking timing. # 1 on compression stroke, Ignition rotor should be pointing at tab under distributor cap for wire that goes to # 1 cylinder. Line up timing marks on pulley as labeled or even at TDC for quick reference. With # 1 cylinder at TDC on compression stroke, rotor tab should be pointed at plug tab under cap, that goes to # 1.

i dont understand this answer !!!!! as i said the van was running , it was getting too much fuel , the injectors and regulator were replaced etc, all wiring and connectors have been properly reinstalled to correct places , now the van will not start but it turns over great , injectors working normal , has spark , any ideas as to what i can check ( timing was never an issue before regulator broke ) it is fine
Well, you obviously have it all under control then. If it's getting spark, fuel, and has compression, then you need to ask if it's getting too much fuel and flooding, or not enough to fire up. Checking the condition of the plugs will tell you that. Then if compression is there as required, as you have also stated, then the next step is to insure that the plugs are firing when they are supposed to, as in timing !
If you have fuel, spark, and compression, that's the 3 things you need for an engine to run, provided they are all working in sync. It is not unusual for a 350 engine to jump timing chain on start-up if chain was getting worn. Was the distributor out for any reason? What's mileage on engine?
thank you for your response , it is running now perfectly , everything was fine , and for whatever reason the electronics in the dist. quit working properly it was not always firing. i used a battery jumper to recharge and jump the van . my only guess is that it some how shorted out the module in the dist . the van ran prior to parking it in my shop but was only running rich . anyway it is all great now .and i really appreciate the assistance from this site and your help also mike thanks for your time .
