Well, you obviously have it all under control then. If it's getting spark, fuel, and has compression, then you need to ask if it's getting too much fuel and flooding, or not enough to fire up. Checking the condition of the plugs will tell you that. Then if compression is there as required, as you have also stated, then the next step is to insure that the plugs are firing when they are supposed to, as in timing !
If you have fuel, spark, and compression, that's the 3 things you need for an engine to run, provided they are all working in sync. It is not unusual for a 350 engine to jump timing chain on start-up if chain was getting worn. Was the distributor out for any reason? What's mileage on engine?

thank you for your response , it is running now perfectly , everything was fine , and for whatever reason the electronics in the dist. quit working properly it was not always firing. i used a battery jumper to recharge and jump the van . my only guess is that it some how shorted out the module in the dist . the van ran prior to parking it in my shop but was only running rich . anyway it is all great now .and i really appreciate the assistance from this site and your help also mike thanks for your time .

Is it sparking when and where it should? Checking timing. # 1 on compression stroke, Ignition rotor should be pointing at tab under distributor cap for wire that goes to # 1 cylinder. Line up timing marks on pulley as labeled or even at TDC for quick reference. With # 1 cylinder at TDC on compression stroke, rotor tab should be pointed at plug tab under cap, that goes to # 1.

1995 chevy g20 van will start with starting fluid when sprayed into airflow (black chamber) and runs for a few seconds only ? Where to start ?

Check your fuel pressure(should be 40 psi or better) after the fuel regulator. In your case, you probably have none. So check and or replace the fuel regulator. If this does not take care of the problem, you would need a fuel pump.

If it is getting spark and fuel check the timing. The timing chain may have jumped.Take out #1 spark plug and tap engine till the compression stroke comes up. To check just hold your finger over the plug hole and the compression will blow it out. Then rock crank by hand and set to top dead center. Take distributer cap off and see if rotor faces #1 cylinder. If you have spark to the plugs and the plugs are good and you have fuel timing or compression is all that is left.

loosing fuel pressure, have you replace fuel pressure regulator, if the regulator is bad, it will have not enough pressure in between the injectors and the regulator. the fuel regulator maintain a proper pressure so the injectors will spray the correct amount of fuel every time the computer tells its to. weak pressure will cause injectors not to spray correct amount of fuel into the intake although will cause your engine to starve for fuel just like you have explained. the parts cost around 135 bucks and easy to replace.

There are three relays all grouped together on the firewall on the passengers side. All three are related to your situated. We can eliminate one of them because you stated that the fuel pump is operating fine. Now that leaves the relay for the ECM(engine control module) this tells the injectors, cold start and run, when and how much fuel to supply and also controls ignition timing and spark advance. The third controls the AC compressor. Now I've got to remind you that I started working on fuel injection systems the day they started failing here in the US around 1972.These were such vehicles as Mercedes, Saab and Volvo. I've worked on every configuration, TBI, MPI, diesel etc.etc. I may on occasion cross one fact with another or mispronounce certain aspect of a system however, These three injectors are where you want to concentrate your efforts. With some finnesse you can swap the harnesses from one to another. If your car runs fine and your AC suddenly does not, then you know that that relay is faulty. Do this until you get your answer. Best of luck my friend, Dana

Chevy van won't start

Check for spark and fuel. If you have spark make sure your fuel pump is working. If pump is working and no spark, check for spark off coil wire. If nothing there either, remove ignition module and take it to Napa and have them check it. Have them test it several times.
