Ping only occurs under load. If there is a noise present when the vehicle is not under load it is not ping and possibly something more serious.
Here's what I recommend. Call around to some local shops and see if they will listen to a noise and how much it would cost. And experienced ear will be able to tell what exactly the noise is or at least narrow down the possibilities. Once you know what the noise is post it in this question and I'll see if there is anything I can suggest to help you out.

The fuses and relays controlling your high and low beams will be under your hood. There will also be a fuse under your dash as well

1. turn ign key to "ON" (engine off)
2. push accelerator pedal fully to the floor and slowely release 3 times within 5 seconds
3. turn ign off
4. start light should be off

Sorry, it is anytime you press the gas, not at idle, and sometimes while cruising. It is not all the time. There will be a day that it works great then next time ping.
