How do you change an ignition switch in an 2002 Impala

I have 2003 Buick and the ignition switch went bad and acted the way you describe...so I would not doubt that the recall extended to your 2002 Impala as well. Good luck making a claim on a bump car.

You need to reset the antitheft put the switch on don t start the car just put on an wait 30 sec. and put back to off.then tray

quite possibly is your ignition key assembly cuts off ,there is a recall on you car ,take it to dealer and they change it for free,it should take about 90 min for them

Assuming the battery does not have a dead cell, a mechanic would disconnect the battery and check every circuit on the car for a voltage drain. It could be anything from a short inside the alternator to a light left on to a short in the wiring.

You can take the distributer out and spin it yourself. You can also take the distributer, coil, etc., in to a place like Autozone to have it checked. But make sure there is power coming from the ignition switch and getting to the coil first.

Had same problem on my 2000 Impala and my 2001 monty carlo on the impala it was the locking mechanism from the transmission was slightly worn there is an adjustment under the dash to lengthen the pin slightly. The monty I had to change the ignition switch behind the key. U can try alittle light oil or WD 40 in the key hole it may help. Ignition and switch not cheap. It is not too hard too change if your a little mechanical and have a couple hours.

most likely you disconnected the igntion switch under the dash or knocked it loose, done it my self plenty of times.

Sounds like an altinator problem. Have it checked out. If your altinator is bad it will not recharge your battery while its running and cause your car to lose all electrical power. When this happens, your car will not usually run for more than 10minutes or so.

if the dash lights come on if they do replace the starter
