The car had a smog last month and passed now the light is on this morning and has not turned off what should i do i want to drive to sacramento this weekend should i go or not . if i have and oil changed will the light turn off .
An oil change will not affect the light, the engine check light indicates a fault has been detected by the computer. I recommend taking it to a competent workshop with diagnostic equipment suitable for your vehicle or a Toyota dealer. If cost of repairs is a major concern, tell them you just want a code test done and then some advice as to cost of repairs, and whether it is safe to drive to Sacramento in it. Without knowing what the fault code is that (which can only be retrieved by diagnostic equipment) I can't really say whether or not it is ok to use the vehicle in the interim, just that it's best to get someone to look at it asap.

There are several monitors in your computer and whenever the computer is reset to turn off the check engine light, the monitors have to run a full cycle to show that they are good. Even though your check engine light might not be lit, the state will not pass emissions unless all drive cycles have been cleared. If you reset the check engine light, you might as well fix the error that caused it to light or you will not be able to pass the emission test. If there isn't an issue, you should be able to just drive for a couple of days for the cycles to complete.
go to an exhaust shop and buy a roll of exhaust pipe fix tape
wrap it around the leak and seal it off
as for the $500.00 payment , that sounds a bit rich as if the car doesn't belong to you and you are only renting it or borrowing it , all repairs are at his expense not yours
Even after resetting the computer it may take several days to reset the internal workings of the computer. When i went for my E Test they asked me if my check engine lite was on in the last thirty days and if I reset the computer I was to run the car and come back in two weeks. I drive an 2005 car.
It takes at least one "Good trip" stored in the computer before it will pass a smog check. Simply resetting the light did not fix the problem that caused the light to come on to begin with, and attempting to smog it will only result in a failed test.
You must address the fault first, then reset the system and drive upwards of 150 miles before a "Good trip" has been stored in the computer.
There should be a 10amp fuse in the fuse box for the instrument panel that powers the light. The light is grounded by the computer. Have you checked the fuses in the passenger compartment ?
No any codes will let you fail..Rangers are bad about the valve sticking..But first look on th driverside very back on the intake..Youll see a valve with two vacuum lines The one that goes on the bottom of the valve makes a 90 bend and is bad about breaking..If the lines are good then work the valve by hand and see if it will move
