Is there any power (should be close to battery voltage, 12-13V) to the starter solenoid when you turn the key on? If not it could just be the starter motor relay, usually found in the engine bay fusebox. Also check what the voltage is (should be battery voltage or no more than 1-2 volts less) to the starter relay from the ignition barrel, sometimes the contacts in the ignition switch get worn out on older cars. Also automatic cars have a thing called an inhibitor switch on the transmission which stops the engine being able to be started in gear, only in neutral or drive (this could be another reason why it might have little or no power at the starter solenoid). That could be your problem also. Try to start it in neutral or park, and wiggle the gear lever around while holding the key in the start position. Otherwise get a mechanic or auto electrician to have a look at it, shouldn't take them long to figure out what the fault is, and shouldn't cost you too much in labour charges.
Take the car to a mechanic and have him look at it before you go buying parts for the car because my 87 accord all of a sudden just stopped running and started to make a high pitched windind noise and i replaced the starter and solenoids and **** and it still doesnt work... i tried the neutral thing and everything else and in the end its just a waste of time so just have a mechanic look at it.
have the same issue it is the torque converter thr gear or teeth are welded in place on the plate and fall off and the starter does not enguage, the replacement part lasted about 8 months befer it broke as well.... junk it and get a new carhave the same issue it is the torque converter thr gear or teeth are welded in place on the plate and fall off and the starter does not enguage, the replacement part lasted about 8 months befer it broke as well.... junk it and get a new car

Engine light on. Security light comes on for a couple seconds then goes off when try to start ?
You need to hook up a professional grade scan tool an do full vehicle scan ,all the modules on the vehicle . PCM - engine computer , BCM -body control module etc...
If you "trick" the starter, and turn key to start at same time ? How do you trick the starter ? jump the B+ terminal to S terminal on the starter solenoid or jump pins 30 & 87 at the starter relay ?
I can't afford to take it to dealer.? don't take it to a dealer , have mobile tech. come to you . Because you have not the knowledge to be messing with it.
What relay did you replace ? Starter relay ? Removing the relay you may have changed connector position in the fuse / relay box where the relay plugs into . Wiggle the relay see if that does anything . At the relay base jump pin's 30 & 87 with jumper wire , it should crank the engine over . If you look on the bottom of the relay you will see 4 set's of numbers 30 & 87 are load side of the relay . If you were to test with a voltmeter ,pin 30 would have Battery voltage ,Pin 87 goes to the S terminal on the starter solenoid . Pins 85 & 86 are the control side .When you turn the key to start B+ voltage goes through the run / start diode ,located in the AUX relay box 1 through the digital transmission range sensor to pin 86 of the starter relay ,pin 85 goes to the PCM .Where the PCM supply's a ground energizing the starter relay closing the contacts inside sending B+ voltage to the starter solenoid S terminal . Do you have a automatic trans or manuel ? Move gear selector to neutral , check out wiring diagram here http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Watch videos on youtube for basic electrical testing , voltage drop testing etc.... How to test a relay . Test the circuit ! How to voltage drop test starter motor circuit
Park neutral safety switch maybe be the reason for the no crank ! Try putting the vehicle in park ,then try to crank the engine . Testing the electrical circuit is the best way to trouble shoot this problem , along with do a voltage drop test on the starter circuit ! This will test the battery cables an connections . Starter Voltage Drop How to voltage drop test starter motor circuit
Does it have a manual or automatic transmission ? Manual ? clutch switch . Looking at a wiring diagram I also see a starter cut relay ! http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Free wiring diagrams . Enter vehicle info. year , make , model and engine size . Under system click engine , under subsystem click starting . Then click the search button , then click the blue link ! Check the starter cut relay also . Videos on youtube showing how to test a relay controlled circuit !
You can jump starter relay to see if starter will crank the engine. Pull the starter relay, use jumper wire between terminals 30 and 87, terminal 30 is hot all the time and there is a fuse, the starter motor should crank the engine. If you try that make sure tranny is in park or neutral and parking brake is set. Two voltage circuits at starter motor, one is hot all the time. The other goes hot when relay is energized. The starter motor grounds through engine block. Battery positive and negative connections are important.
well if you have a dvom/voltmeter check the power at the starter terminals. the main terminal should have power all the time the key wire should have power only when the key is turned to crank engine. if you have power at both then i would start looking at grounds
If he had it started two times without the key , i would think it was the starter either . Do you an the guy who replace the ignition switch know how the starting system on your tahoe works ? Do you know what a neutral safety switch is ? Try moving the gear shifter to neutral an see if it starts then . That is if your tahoe has a automatic transmission . When you turn the key to the start position this sends a voltage signal to the PCM - engine computer which inturn will energize the starter relay , closing the contacts sending B+ voltage to the starter solenoid , spinning the engine over . Using a factory scan tool you would be able to see if that start signal from the ignition switch is making it to the PCM . Also would be able to energize the starter relay with the scan tool to see if the computer can energize the starter relay . You could also do testing with a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter . Find the PCM an connector 2 pin #59 , this is the circuit for start from ignition switch . Have someone turn the key to start , is there B+ voltage ? Find the starter relay in the under hood fuse box, pull it out an look on the bottom . You will see four sets of numbers 30 , 87 , 86 , 85 . If you take a piece of wire an jump 30 an 87 in the fuse box the starter will crank the engine , or spin the engine . If you do that and it won't start , cables , connections or the starter is the problem .
Top up for the auto trans is usally through the dipstic hole as for how much to put in markings are on the the dipstick with markings for hot and cold depending on weather the car has been used or not and check with manfacturer as to what type to put in, as for not going in to gear or changeing gear, it probably needs the auto trans serviced or it could be on its way out.The starting problem could be to do with engine starter itself and it may need replaceing.
