That's scary that your check engine light is on, and it's inconvenient that you can't get the smog check done. My light is also on, except it also makes a little whining sound whenever I go above 40 mph. We should probably both find an auto repair place near us to get it fixed. http://www.pandtautomotive.com/That's scary that your check engine light is on, and it's inconvenient that you can't get the smog check done. You will need to have engine codes pulled from vehicles computer and perform repair, before the light will go off.

I am assuming the code you are getting is for oxygen sensor b1s1? Double check which side is bank 1 if you have a v6.
Don't forget wiring issues also.An old trick on a v engine is you could wire b1s2 with b2s1 and just use the b2 sensor for both.
Take it to a shop and have it scanned to find out what the problem is. Your cars computer gets input from sensors, if something is wrong or out of spec the light comes on. You should fix the problem right not just disconnect the light. I wouldn't go back to auto zone they sound like idiots!
YOU CANT RESET ENGINE WARNING LIGHT UNTIL YOU CODE SCAN FIX THE PROBLEM.BECAUSE IF YOU HAVE A BAD SENSOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL STAY ON.ONCE YOU REPLACE THE BAD SENSOR YOU NEED A CODE SCANNER TO ERASE TURN OFF CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.
mcdevito75 here, BEST BET let your local shop run a scan on your cars computer, 1 or more sensors that control engine emmissions may be bad, if so you"d never pass smog inspection. Sorry.
The converter's only purpose is to reduce emissions from the engine, in
rare cases the converter can disintegrate which could result in a loss
of power but this is not very common,
This means that you're Cat needs repair or replacement, You're car will not pass legally smoged without fixing this. :
had my check engine light cleared to get it smoged. was told by smog company that the panels take 100 miles to reset. seems that the fix was not really a fix after all. they must have cleared the code and it took your computer the 100 miles to identify the same problem your mechanic was supposed to fix, but didn't. good luck fighting the same thing.
Normally you can disconnect the battery for a few minutes and this does the trick. If the light comes back on, you may need to read the codes again. And, if it faults the MAF...you know it is not that and may be something else.
