My 1999 pontiac grand prix 3.8 liter stutters between the speeds of 30mph and 70mph at quarter throttle. when i push the pedal to the ground it has no problems, takes off just fine. no check engine light is on either. even when it starts stuttering if i floor it, it stops stuttering. had mechanics look at it and nobody can figure it out

ive also had the tranny checked and the tranny only has maybe 30,000miles on it. ive checked the fuel filter, wasnt any water in it and i could blow through it freely. aslo it idles fine.

it could be thatyour ignition timing is out
you mayhave a clogged fuel filter
your injectors may be dirty

SOURCE: engine stuttering upon acceleration

Sounds like your transmission is shot... but I'm not sure... Generally when you have problems while shifting gears it's the tranny isn't it? I'd get it looked at.

SOURCE: 1999 pontiac grand am 4 cylinder rough idle, rpms fluxuates

Most likely your throttle position sensor is faulty. You could have a vacuum leak as well. Most probable cause is a bad sensor. Is your check engine light on? Have you checked your engine codes? You can go to autozone.com and register for full free online repair manual.

Testimonial: "the check engine light had been on but we unplugged the battery yesterday for a couple of hours and put it back in and the light isn't on anymore. "

I have a 1999 pontiac grand prix GTP. i changed the TPS but now my transmission is shifting late. im getting a code for the TPS but its new. someone told me that there might be a TPS by the gas pedal, but...

TPS by the gas pedal.. Your vehicle doesn't electronic throttle control ,an it's not a TPS at the gas pedal . IT's a APP - accelerator pedal position sensor. im thinking it might be the speed sensor???? A speed sensor is not going to set a TPS code , don't care if sensors is new , Electrical circuits involved , PCM - engine computer . If all you can do is guess your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop.

I have a Pontiac Grand Prix GT, 3.8 Liter Motor. Two codes PO108 Map/Baro CKT High Input, and PO121 Throttle/Pedal Position sens A ckt Rng/Perform, according to the scanner. Did I need a Map Sensor and...

Change the throttle sensor first, and see if the map sensor is a victum. throttle sensor is similar to an old volume reostat, on some cars and everything else tries to do react, and everything errors out.... My bet is throttle position sensor... But you never know, it CAN be both, just usually not both.

Mass air flow sensor location

3.1 liter - It will be in the air snorkel in between the air filter housing and the throttle body.

3.8 liter - it will be mounted in the throttle body right before the throttle.

Both will have a flat 3 wire connector.

Where is the throttle control sensor located on a 1999 pontiac grand prix gtp

The throttle control sensor is called a TPS which is mounted on the throttle body. You will see three wires that plug into it. The throttle body replaces the old carburetor since the engine is fuel injected as you may know

Idle problem

throttle position sensor is what I replaced on mine. Could also be a short in a wire that controls throttle. That was 6 years ago and it was $100. Took it to a shop, that's all I got.
