1994 Geo Metro Automatic Transmission

My automatic transmission would not shift gears unless I shifted them my self. I bought the car that way and have driven it over a year now. Well I got tire of shifting an automatic so I bought another transmission and had it installed. It still does the same thing..... WHY?????? ...... It has to be something simple. I am disabled and this is my only car. I can drive it fine, but if something happens to me and my wife has to drive it then we are screwed. She just can't seem to learn to shift the thing.

Where would this be located?? I heard it might be some kind of sensor but don't have a clue as to where it is.

My 94 is the same way, and has been that way for a year or so, but now I think the clutches are slipping, it mainly does this when it is cold outside, I am going to pull my transmission out and have guy look at it I will write back my findings later, the transmission guy also spoke of a sensor that might be the problem. More to come

i have the same problem. how much would it cost to fix the transmission controller?

There is a tranny computer in the old geo's. Our 94 metro was the same way and we went to a junk yard and pulled a tran. computer from one there (alot cheaper than the $100 plus for a new one). It solved the problem and ran like new. No more having to shift an automatic. HTH Megan

There is a transmission controller that is located under the dash beside the right hand side of the steering column. It is held on to a bracket by two 10mm bolts. A change in that transmission control computer will make the transmission shift like new

This is a possiable transmission control module problem, yes the trans is computer controlled, also check for transmission codes.

This is not a sensor, sensors are an input, it is the controller, it is an output, it is under the dash on the drivers side, you really need a manual to ID it.

My 1994 Geo Metro will go into gear but won't go

there are R, 1,2 and D gears, all 3 dead?
the automatic transmission is failing?
so tell the full story.
1: i get in car start engine and select, drive,
2: i step on the throttle pedal, the RPM goes to 1000 and stops
engine bad,(100 related reasons) weak engine.
2b: I do same the RPM goes to way over 3000 rpm engine screams
in bar stool words
this is called transmission, bad. (for 100 reasons)

1: make sure shift cable works like new, read the FSM on the checks.
2: make sure levels are correct per the operators guide, do not guess.
read the guide and do it right. not like engine checks. of oil at all.
if fluid pink or red, or brown and black or black and full of metal flakes.???? ever do a tranny serviced (full) this DECADE? hummmmm........
3: fuses good. all fuses.

1992 geo metro automatic transimssion problem

Your probably looking at a transmission rebuild. But it is sporadic. Could be a valve body problem or solenoids. and electrical. Throw it on a scanner and find out.

92 geo metro with automatic transmission will not go out of 1st gear sometimes

my guess is its not electric shifted, (what trans model is it)
so step 2 in the FSM book says.... and i paraphrase
step1 is stall test (my guess passes in 1st and reverse)
step 2, line pressure test?
if that fails, tranny is bad.

1994 geo metro automatic transmission wont shift manuallywhen warm.

is it slipping,?
if the rpms rise and car dont speed up , in direct proportions that is slip.
is it?
if the engine has full power in 1st, the the transmission is bad.

not sure what shift manually means,
Drive to low? low to high. what? be exact in statements/
better stated what it does good and bad, and when. all modes.
are you saying the trans shirts perfectly in AUTOMATIC when cold./?

TRASMISSION

The torque converter may be shot.

The main Transmission fluid pump may be shot.

The electricals to the solenoids may be disconnected or relays maight not be functioning.

Look for drips of oil and listen for strange sounds coming from it.

1992 Geo Metro w/ automatic. In drive, won't

may be low on fluid as that wont shift the pistons in the valve body of the transmission
due to no fluid pressure!

Geo metro transmission slips and will not down shift into passing gear with pedle pressed to the floor

Auto Trans I had to replace solenoid in transmission there are two of them when you drop the pan. After testing with a 12 volt battery one was bad replaced and transmission works fine. Mine was a 1996, cost about $90 for solenoid.
