when you operates the heater button worm water of your engine's water jackets enter to the evaporator locates inside your A/C blower & air flows through it & air becoming worm. Therefore I proposed you to check your vent linkages for vent doors inside the blower unit.
1st gen throttle body they rarely fail, I recommend to remove and clean the unit first before replacing one, used Valvoline throttle body cleaner only; when you have the unit out, take your time and clean it slowly soak it completely with the solvent. refurbish run you 90-100 bucks from RockAuto.com, another place to look is junk yard, don't buy new. 30 minute job cleaning or replacing the unit. If it serve my memories correctly, 350z use the same throttle body as G35 up to 07'. hope that help some
there is a mode controller/actuator in the passenger side area(behing glove box) that will make clicking and rattling noise when failed but I cant say it makes a "horrible" rattle but it is quite audible clicking and clearly is a noise coming from inside the left dash area
Just pop out the side marker from where the marker meets the fender well and push outward on the side marker. It has a metal clip retaining it to the bumper.
