When I am accelerating going uphill my vehicle seems to gasp or chug and I push the accelerator more but still have trouble getting horsepower. Runs fine any other time

Hi,
You might get some gas treatment for your tank. Sometimes bad gas can cause those symptoms.
I would put the treatment in and let it sit overnight. Hopefully the next morning the car will feel better!

Your car is chocking , Maybe wrong Cat. Diconnect exhaust in front of Cat and see if it still exist.

I had the same on my 3.8L 2002 Impala. Right arround 3500-4000rpms with moderate to high acceleration; shaking and bucking. With light acceleration, it seemed OK. And no "check engine" light.
It was the MAF sensor. I ended up replacing it, but it was pretty expensive $150+?
You might try cleaning yours first with MAF spray cleaner.
It is located on the throttle body under the engine cover.
