Timing belt/water pump

Had timing belt and water pump changed out. Now I get high pitched squeal with cold start up and a slight friction/hum all the time. Is this the belt or the pump........both?

It sounds like who-ever put it back together again never tensioned your alternator belt properly and thus when its cold you hear squealing. The hum could be the belt rubbing off of the timing belt cover if that was also put on incorrectly i would think.
It would be beneficial to have it all rechecked before driving it again just to be on the safe side.

High pitched engine squeal upon start up, then goes away I'm thinking bad pulley

All though the solutions above are possible, the squeal usually just means one of your belts is getting going bad.

Pop the hood, and turn your belt slightly (the thinner one, not the timing belt) and see if the bottom side is looking 'glazed' or if there are intermittent cracks. You may need a flashlight to determine this.

If the belt is bad, some times you can just loosen the alternator and get the belt off. Some cars require a lot more work. Don't be surprised if the mechanic tries to get you to replace the water pump at the same time when you take the car in to get the belt replaced.

Depending on your financial situation at the time, it may be a good idea to replace the water pump if you have gone 5 years or more on rhe current one.

Hope this helps, all the best to you,

Check the serpentine accessory drive belt and the drive belt pulleys for out of alignment issues. Also make sure the belt tensioner is functioning correctly.

Your water pump may need a lubricant. Water pump lubricant is added to the radiator.
When the weather is warm enough, and the engine runs hotter, then the thermostat opens more frequently, the lubricant will mix with the radiator fluid and circulate through the sysem lubricating the water pump.
I had squealing problem after changing the serpentine belt.
Tried changing idler sprocket, no difference.
I added the lubricant to the radiator, unfortunately the weather was cold, and the lubricant did not mix well with the radiator fluid, and did not circulate well do to cold weather and short drives.
Once the weather got warmer and the thermostat opened more often the squealing stopped.

Belt pulley squeal

Th cam shaft pulley has to be turning if motor running. Maybe fan is equipped with clutch that is bad.

Squealing noise (LOUD)

You need to check the pulley alignment of all the pulleys, they should all be in a perfectly straight line, otherwise the belt will squeal
