I have a 1997 Dodge Caravan 3.0L that has failed emissions due to the computer not being ready. I found after a couple of drive cycles that the computer was not holding information. I replaced the computer and after doing a drive cycle or two the new computer is holding information. However I still cannot get the O2 Sensor heater, Evap System and the EGR system to set. I went through the maintenance logs and found that the CPS was replaced last year and I just replaced the fuel cap. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
In order to set the monitor it the drive cycle 2 trip criteria that means you need to have a cold start up and reach operating temperature then another cold start up with a operating temperature reached and the drive for each one is part throttle hold for 2 miles and a decelration for the catalytic to get ready.when the cat is ready the evap runs.If you are loosing monitor at key off and everything reset you can see the referee let them smog it. The EGR and EVAP are almost impossilbe to get ready

The trick to setting all the monitors is:
Make sure you have more than 1/4 tank of fuel but no more than 3/4.
Clear codes then Do Not cycle key off. Start vehicle and drive, make sure you do at least 2 minutes of steady spead between 40-50 mph and at least 2 minutes at 50-65 mph, usually about a 20 to 25 mile drive will set them..
If you turn the ignition off before the monitors complete then EVAP will have to see a 6 hour cold soak before it will attempt to run again.

Hello and welcome to FixYa!
It is suggested you take it for a few runs. 25kms. atleast. After that, you can remove the positive battery connector and let it sit for atleast 5mins. before reconnecting.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

You may have a defective coolant or air temp sensor. These need to be accurate in order for some of the monitors to run. Your going to need a diagnostic scanner to see the data so you can determine what is wrong.
If you had replaced or unhooked the battery just pryor to geting the smog then thats the problem. Just drive the truck for a couple days and you should be fine.
You will still pass the test if you still have 2 monitors not set. California allows that. 3 fail
