1997 Dodge Caravan ECM will not go Ready, no trouble codes

I have a 1997 Dodge Caravan 3.0L that has failed emissions due to the computer not being ready. I found after a couple of drive cycles that the computer was not holding information. I replaced the computer and after doing a drive cycle or two the new computer is holding information. However I still cannot get the O2 Sensor heater, Evap System and the EGR system to set. I went through the maintenance logs and found that the CPS was replaced last year and I just replaced the fuel cap. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

In order to set the monitor it the drive cycle 2 trip criteria that means you need to have a cold start up and reach operating temperature then another cold start up with a operating temperature reached and the drive for each one is part throttle hold for 2 miles and a decelration for the catalytic to get ready.when the cat is ready the evap runs.If you are loosing monitor at key off and everything reset you can see the referee let them smog it. The EGR and EVAP are almost impossilbe to get ready

The trick to setting all the monitors is:
Make sure you have more than 1/4 tank of fuel but no more than 3/4.
Clear codes then Do Not cycle key off. Start vehicle and drive, make sure you do at least 2 minutes of steady spead between 40-50 mph and at least 2 minutes at 50-65 mph, usually about a 20 to 25 mile drive will set them..
If you turn the ignition off before the monitors complete then EVAP will have to see a 6 hour cold soak before it will attempt to run again.

Hello and welcome to FixYa!
It is suggested you take it for a few runs. 25kms. atleast. After that, you can remove the positive battery connector and let it sit for atleast 5mins. before reconnecting.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

SOURCE: 1999 Subruban 1500 LT Failed Emissions Test:

You may have a defective coolant or air temp sensor. These need to be accurate in order for some of the monitors to run. Your going to need a diagnostic scanner to see the data so you can determine what is wrong.

If you had replaced or unhooked the battery just pryor to geting the smog then thats the problem. Just drive the truck for a couple days and you should be fine.

You will still pass the test if you still have 2 monitors not set. California allows that. 3 fail

CODE PO441 DODGE INTRAPID 2002 EREPAIR

Here is the definition of the code.
Possible causes are a defective gas cap or a leak in the vent system.

P0441 DODGE Description The vapor pressure sensor, Voltage Solenoide Valve (VSV) for EVAP, Voltage Solenoide Valve (VSV) for canister closed valve (CCV) and Valve Solenoide Valve (VSV) for pressure switching valve are used to detect abnormalities in the evaporative emission control system. The ECM decides whether there is an abnormality in the evaporative emission control system based on the vapor pressure sensor signal. Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0441 is recorded by the ECM when there is a malfunction in either the VSV for EVAP, the VSV for pressure switching valve, or in the vapor pressure sensor itself, or when evaporative emissions leak from the components within the dotted line in Fig. 1 below.

The ECM closes the CCV and opens the VSV for pressure switching valve causing vacuum to increase in the entire EVAP system. The ECM continues to operate the VSV for EVAP until the vacuum is increased to a specified point at which time the ECM closes the VSV for EVAP. If the vacuum did not increase, or if the vacuum increased beyond the specified limit, the ECM judges the VSV for EVAP and related components to be faulty.

Code 1494

Did you mean p1494? If so then its your evaporative emission ventilation switch or a mechanical fault, probable causes:

  1. Evaporative Emission Ventilation Solenoid failed
  2. An open or short circuit.
  3. Vacuum hose clogged.
  4. PCM Failed
Check the following:

  1. Check the following connectors: A-109, B-76, B-63, A-107. Repair if needed. If its ok then check:
  2. Check the harness wire between the Evaporative Emission Ventilation Solenoid connector. If its ok then:
  3. Replace PCM

1997 tsi awd wont pass emissions

Very well could be, if it will not pass due to a trouble code. If it is the actual emmissions that are tested and then failed due to the CO2 emmisions then it could be a myriad of problems.

Chrysler 3.3 vin r v6 mini van, starts then dies

Charlie. You have replaced the ECM on your van?.
Kedwin,, Your problem is, the computer on that 3.3 L.
Need to be programed with the VIN nember of your car.
The Antitheft System will disable the injectors due a incorrect VIN, Bucause the body computer is not recieve the correct pasword between 5 seconds after start up.
YOU have 2 options. 1 get a ALOHA Smith. some of they have the computer required to program ECMs.

The other option is: Get a new ECM from the dealer, They will program if ask for that.

NOTE:::::: Other way is . Put the body control module with the computer from the same car.

OK... I hope this work for yours.
If NOT letme know I can look for more information.
