My nissan frontier blows the automatic transmission fuse when attempting to start and it will not go into overdrive

When attempting to start the vehicle the automatic transmission fuse blows, sometimes the vehicle will start but when the transmission is put into gear the fuse will then blow causing the engine to die. if the vehicle is driving down the road and the fuse has not blown it seems to be that the overdrive will not work and the engine revs to about 3500 rpms while driving at 65 mph. thanks for any help that you may give

Replace the transmission range switch for starters, if that doesn't correct the problem you have have a shorted shift solenoid on the valve body inside the transmission.

On this transmission is the transmission position switch located at the top of the transmission that the only switch that that if it short can stall the engine that I know of. Unless your problem reside in the cruise control but that will only cause you to surge at highway speeds.Do you have the fuse location number. The reason I say this is that The TPS sensor is fused which is part of the ECM relay . Disconnect TPS and see if the fuse blows (it wont accelerate right but we are testing the fuse)

SOURCE: Dash guages going crazy

Your dashboard circuit is probably burnt out. The same thing happened to me, it's like a $20 part but is about $60 with installation, check with a dealer though.

SOURCE: The RPM of Nissan Altima stays high when drive over 65 MPH.

No....the rpms differ from engine to engine and from manufacturer to manufacturer. RPM's are always higher at higher speeds.

SOURCE: transmission is not shifting properly on my 2000

You could have a bad valvebody in your transmission or a bad pump in your transmission or your clutches are bad. In any case you have a bad transmission. Please rate my answer.

SOURCE: Check engine light is on, codes say throttle body

the throttle body butterfly is letting too much air through so its probably stuck or dirty, they should be cleaned every service but noone ever does, if its revving beteen gears then its prob getting stuck in different places so it could probably just use a good clean out

I got a 2000 maxima wont go into overdrive and fans not working

On overdrive not working = check the 'Revolution Sensor' (on transmission output area, check the 'OD' Switch.

On the fans - fuse panel under hood - two relays one for the 'thermostatic fan' the other for the A/C fan.

My 1998 frontier pic up is automatic the button on the shifter doesnt work so the engine light coms on i had it scanned

This is a duplicate question.
You are saying the overdrive button does not affect the transmission.
What was the trouble code stored in the computer ?
Chances are it is a problem inside the transmission.

2004 nissan frontier 4cylinder automatic transmission shifts in to overdrive too soon

An expert at a shop ought to look at this---could be a shift module or electronic or mechanical problem.

It might also be a sign something bad is about to happen.

Electronic or mechanical issue?

How do i tell if my transmission is a automatic 4 or 5 or 6 speed? on a 2006 frontier se 4 x 4 engine code: re5ro5a

If it's an automatic, You see the Following: P R N D 2 1 etc. Some may show: P R N D 3 2 1 or .... 3 2 L ... D 2 L etc.

To really determine whether it's a 4,5 or 6, take into consideration if it has Overdrive.

Count however many gears are on the column, as listed above, plus overdrive. this will give you your answer.

Ex: With Overdrive: P R N D 3 2 would be a 3 speed ( 2 3 D) with overdrive.

The transmission slips in and out of overdrive too much and shifts a little rough, but only in overdrive

Check the fluid level of the transmission. Also if you haven't done so in the last 30k miles change the transmission filter/fluid and pan gasket.

1999 nissan frontier overdrive problem

juan: there is a cable which comes from the transmission to the throttle linkage. This is called the TV (throttle valve) cable. This is designed to work in conjunction with the position of the throttle. I'm sure you heard the term "KICK DOWN SWITCH". Well this essentially is doing the same thing. If the cable is out of adjustment, it will have a tendency to want to downshift into 3rd.
Even though overdrive is electrically actuated, it can be disengaged by the throttle position.
There is also a coolant temp sensor which keeps the transmission from shifting into overdrive until the coolant temperature reaches a certain point. The sensor tells the ECM to tell the Solenoid it's ok to supply a ground to it.
Your overdrive switch provides a ground to actuate the overdrive solenoid. Make sure the switch has a solid ground serving the circuit.
The torque converter solenoid picks up it's ground from the ECM.
Both solenoids are served by the same power source which is a switched circuit through the ignition.
I hope I have shed some new light on your problem and given you some new direction in which to look. I hope I have helped you resolve your problem. If not, I'll be watching and will be ready to offer more help if needed. ..mybunkey
