You have a stuck air temperature control blend door problem. The blend door is what moves to divert air across the heater core and AC core to heat or coll the air or a combination of the hot and cold air streams, to blend them. To replace the part requires that the dash be removed from car as the door is located in the production.

SOURCE: where is the thermostat located on a 1997 lincoln

thermostat is located in the radiator to block hose. if you look directly under the power steering reservoir you should see it.
The thermostat has 3 hoses running from it. 2 are approx. 1.5" in dia and 1 is approx .750" in dia. The .750" hose leads up to the coolant reservoir. and yes it is under the power steering reservoir

1996 Lincoln Mark VIII The air and blowers work. Heat does not. Sometimes heat comes on by itself. Could it be the air/heat controller? This happened on my 1997 but 1996 does not have a blend door.

USA car or NOT, ?????????? what engine?
with or with out electronics temp control options
I can't see the dash to go ahhhhhhhhhh
EATC for sure has named bend door.
fuse are first are they all good>?/
below 120f coolant the blower is taken off line.
well there are only 2 causes.
one under the hood, engine not hot,. thermostat bad.
two, cam dampers failing. or heater core clogged up. inside.

a tech does simple tests to see which end of car fails
even a finger, test. to the 2 tubes passing the fire wall to the heater core. (ouch, ouch) test tube,1 and 2, are 180f to 220f hot that is good test for engine bay good
and the core is not clogged
if hot /cold is fingered, that is clogged up core.

the first question that pops to mind also is does the cab core have hot water valve. most cars now do not.
i just look at the 2 heater core tubes for water valve and even cable drive or vacuum drive to it.
there is vacuum servo called heater door actuator
or has below EATC

here it is and if dead and stuck in blend cold ,heat ends

blend-undefined-undefined-0_0.jpg what I do is 2 things, (working cab side)
core tubs both hot 180f UP
i watch all damper doors, actions in all modes.
3 or more.
if say blend door is dead, i move it by hand,
some even wire (bailing)wire it to hot and drive all winter.
until spring and fix it then.

yes one has vacuum blend door
and yes other model has gear/motor actuator EATC blend door servo./

what you, nobody knows
but id pull off all lower panels to the dash and look first
sure whole if core is hot, 2 tubes, sure would

These are the files for your Year of car. Can not say if the link will work on this media. If it does not work, do a Browser using these terms 1993 LTC EATC self-test procedures, or similar. The 1993 is the 1st of a group to 1997 or 1998 that have similar systems. So they would activate the same way. There is a good post for 1996 LTC on Edmunds.com that has Code definitions.

I have a P0456 code on my 2003 Ford Expedition. Where is the vapor purge solenoid or the canister?

The information you are asking for varies depending on how the vehicle is equipped ie. ENGINE SIZE, AUTOMATIC or MANUAL TRANSMISSION, 2-WHEEL DRIVE, 4-WHEEL DRIVE, ALL-WHEEL DRIVE, etc.
With that said, it also deserves mention that there is a Technical Service Bulletin published by Ford Motor Company that applies to the model year and model that you have listed that involves Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) P0456.

Please note that this bulletin emphasizes the requirement of special equipment to properly diagnose and repair the DTC's listed in the bulletin. Below is a brief (partial) description of the bulletin:

ISSUE
Some vehicles may exhibit a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminated with Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) P0442, P0455, P0456, P0457 or P1442 or a "Check Fuel Cap" Lamp illuminated with DTC P0457 for the Evaporative Emission System. This may be caused by loose or leaking hoses, loose or broken fuel cap, a leak at the top of the fuel filler pipe neck, etc.
ACTION
Use the Rotunda Leak Detector Smoke Machine (Part 218-00001) or equivalent, to locate and repair leaks in the Evaporative Emission System.

How do you read the code on a 1997 Lincoln mark 8

Codes are read by hooking up a scanner to the OBDII portal located under the dash on the driver side. There is no other way to read codes on an OBDII system, which were mandated on all cars sold in America from 1996 on.

Lincoln mark 8, a/c was working, then kept starting and stopping now dead, compressor works, fan wont blow, even on vent or heat....where is the fuse/relay for this or what else could it be?

It is the blower motor,or the blower relay module, near the blower motor, and check the ac/heat control unit,if the blower ,and relay module turn out to be good.

90 lincoln was running hot 3 yrs ago,and no heat just replaced head gasket, heads pass pressure test,no cracks in heads, head gasket was bad, still no heat, heater hoses hot, pressure test cooling system...

Have you even considered the heater core? Have the heater core checked/replaced. As for the top hose collapsing...that is not good. Have the entire system checked out by a qualified mechanic.
