Shift sensors are indicators for a computer controlled circuit. Most times, they are contained or housed within a solenoid pack. As they are an electronic monitor, the area they are housed in will usually have a multi-pin wiring harness leading to it. The harness connector is normally protected with a rubber grommet around it. I have seen these grommets "folded over/pinched" during assembly line installation. The purpose of the grommet is to form a water proof barrier within the harness connection. As this is a 4x4, it most likely sees somewhat rougher conditions and exposure. Any ammount of water spraythat reaches a weakened grommet is likely to penetrate through to the alloy electrical terminals. These "pins" rarely rust, but they DO corrode. The fine, powdery, blue corrosion inside the connections can act like an insulator and corrupt the signal. If disconnecting the harness pigtail is possible, physically look into the harness ends and at the pins. If there IS corrosion, try tapping the harness end against the transmission or transfercase to dislodge any loose particles. Usually, just a quick burst of air is enough to clear out the connection on the vehicle. Sometimes, that's all it takes. If there IS corrosion evident, FILL the cavity containing the pins with a dielectric gel/grease, before reinstalling the pigtail. DO NOT use silicone!

SOURCE: 92 chevy s10 4x4 4.3L manual transmission no 3rd gear

Hi:

Your transmission has 3 shift rails...
1st - 2nd
3rd -4th
5th- Reverse

If your 3rd gear doesn't work , you have an internal transmission problem, such as a syncronizer, or similar fail... There is not much you can fix, without removeing the transmission.

1988 chevy 4x4 k1500 auto tranny wont shift into 2nd, 3rd etc

Check the sensors on the transmission. May just be corrosion on the sensors or it may be a faulty sensor. Also, the torque converter bearing may have went bad due to the running it on low transmission fluid.

1994 chevy k1500 4x4 the speedometer is not working and my transmission wont shift but if the speedometer is working the trans works perfect

Speed sensor is most likely goin or gone out. It is located on the drivers side of the transmission tailshaft. Speed information runs through the cruise control and the computer to the speedometer.

I have a 1999 Chevy which is stuck in 4x4

If it's electronic 4x4, check the wire to the 4x4 sensor that should be located behind the front differential. If this wire is unhooked or broken, then it will keep it from shifting out of 4wd. Otherwise I would check to make sure there is adequate fluid in both the transfer case and front differential. Good luck
