Diagnostic scanner won't read the assembly line data link

2000 Saturn SC, DOHC, manual transmission. Having problems with starting, lots of possibilities. Tried to narrow down using a diagnostic scanner. However the scanner says "not connected". The chiltons manual I have only shows terminal diagram (ALDL) for 1995 and earlier. Even though the manual is for 1991-2002. How can I verify the number and location of pins for the ALDL. We went to junk yard to pull, but all the ones we found had 7 pins and mine only has 4, They all had a blue wire, but mine did not. We are thinking that mine has been disconnected, but we can't find a disconnected wire. Any ideas??

Pin # 16 is your power and there is a fuse for it in the fuse panel on the passenger side of the console near the passengers left foot also in there is the fuel pump relay and its fuse jsut so u know.

If there is water ingress into the ecu(engine control unit) the scanner usually will not be able to read it and causes the problems you are having

I have a 1998 saturn SL2 with a LL1.9LL4 engine, want to switch out with a 1998 saturn SW2SW wagon with a 16 valve twin cam will this work? SL2 engine blown, SW2SW ****** is going!
If you are replacing a DOHC 1998 engine with another DOHC 1998 engine yes it will work. Saturn only made two engines from 91-99 and they all had the same block, difference some were SOHC and others were DOHC. The number "1" after SL or SC or SW means SOHC while the number "2" after SC or SL or SW means a DOHC.

Note if one is an auto and the other manual you are going to have to swap the flywheel/ring gear stuff over.

I have a 96 saturn that i replaced the tranny in with a 95 tranny. when i drive it it will go through the gears. when it goes to shift into 3rd it downshifts. what is causing that to happen
You have to make sure that you are using the correct transmission. If you have a SOHC then you need the SOHC transmission. A DOHC transmission will bolt up but it has the wrong gear ratios for your SOHC and its computer. You will get all kinds of funky shifting if you use a SOHC car with a DOHC transmission or vise versa. Check the stamping on the bell housing of the transmission you put in and see if it has an MP7 or MP6. MP6 trannys are the SOHC transmission, the MP7 is the DOHC transmission.

96 saturn sc transmission problem
Are you sure you are getting the right trans? There are 2 different based on sohc or dohc. The rpo codes are mp6 or mp7. The gear ratios are different and will set these codes.

I have a diagnostic code for my 2000 Saturn SL 2 that is P1811. I know it is transmission related, but what is this code telling me? The car has the v-6 engine in it. Thanks.
p1811 means=Replace Pressure Control Solenoid Valve Assembly. Its a common problem with saturn transmissions.
