2002 dodge caravan 4 cylinder se transmission failure

Van has 190000 miles and was serviced 3 weeks ago. Everything was working fine. I was just driving down the freeway and the transmission stopped working. no clunk or anything. The engine just started racing as I pushed on the throttle to keep going 55 but the automatic transmission was completely disengaged. Strangely enough the transmission will work in reverse but not in the forward gears. What happened?

Lots of possibilities from a bad solenoid pack to a broken gear or blown internal seal. No way you're gonna DIY your way out of this. Get it to a shop.

Automatic transmissions can fail at any mileage. First thing you need to do is check the fluid level, make sure the transmission is full, also check the condition of the fluid, burnt odor, strong varnish smell, or signs of contamination. If the level is correct, and the fluid is red in color, without any strong odors, you may have some type of valvebody issue, however, given my experience, these transmissions are prone for failure around this mileage.

SOURCE: I have a 1998 Dodge

No such thing as replacement

You have to rebuild yours or install a reman, that may be what your referring to.

No repair for that, has to come apart to find the issue with reverse

2002 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SPEED JUMPS AND RPM REV UP ON STARTUP

Assuming you meant tachometer, not speedometer, then it's the throttle position sensor. I just replaced mine on a 2003 Jeep Cherokee, and they are prone to failure on all Chrysler products, especially if over 70k-80k miles.
