One cylinder misfiring after changing timeing belt for my landrover defender 110

HI, i need all info, year, make model, engine size. the timing belt was replaced why? because it broke?

  • Anonymous Feb 20, 2012

    Vehicle Details:
    Make: Landrover
    Modle : Pickup
    Vin/Chasis Number:F821638
    Engine Number: 16L-55212A
    Propellled by: Deisel
    Engine Capcity: 2030
    Year of Make: 1996

Wanted to replace timing belt as preventive measure as did not know the state of the timing belt. However had to replace old belt as the belt supplied I was advised had round teeth as opposed to original which had flat teeth. Otherwise the length widith and number of teeth was the same. I found this strange but had to accept advice as the new belt ler completely loosened.

Upon reassembling and starting engine there was some misfiring noticed and contineuos puffing of smoke. Double checked the timing found okay. But since the injection pump belt pully had no marks I reset this using spill method.

Then proceed as eailer mentioned to identify possible source of misfiring. Zerroed in on the number one cylinder where dispite injector injecting fuel no firing was taking place.

SOURCE: 98 vw beetle misfiring after rain. New plugs, coil cas cracks????

Hi, Yes it certainly could be especially if water gets in. You should also check the distributor cap. The misfire sounds like an arcing problem so it would have to be one of those two things since you changed the rest. Good Luck!

SOURCE: had timing belt changed and now cylinders 1, 3 ,

1,3,5 are on the passenger side....very common place for the timing to jump on these cars.6,4,2 are on the drivers side...just something to keep in mind but I agree sounds like the timing is still off. Setting the timing on these cars can be very tricky!

SOURCE: Diagnostic tool says random multiple misfires on

You may have to erase the codes with a scanner,or code reader, then if it persist, have the mechanic recheck the alignment of the timing. If the belt had jumped,or broken ,then there might be some valves bent,if the engine is running poorly,if not,and this was a maintenance thing, check the fuel pressure,it sounds strange sense he just replaced the timing belt,so have him find out what the problem is.

One cylinder misfiring. checked injectors and tappet clearance both okay. Suspect poor compression on cylinder number one. Defender 110 tdi

I take it you have also checked plug and wire. If so could have carbon build up causing valve sticking or camshaft rolled lobe or bad lifter, bent pushrod. This about covers all other possibilitys

Replace rear transfer case seal on Landrover Defender 200tdi

You're going to have to pull the transfer case, disconnecting it from the driveshafts etc. I would use a small motorcycle lift / jack once disconnected to let it down, but other than that it's not that bad of a job. Is it leaking from the output shaft seal? if so there are two / front and rear get the set with both and just do them both at the same time since the case will be out anyway. Replace TC fluid after re installation

How do you change a series 3 landrover fronf crank seal ?

The entire timing belt assembly has to be removed, plus the crank sprocket for the belt, and the seal is behind there. If you're not an experienced mechanic, this is NOT a recommended do-it-yourself job - the components that have to come off are critical, as is the setup of the engine before you remove them, and there are idiosyncrasies to each vehicle that make the job tricky unless you're intimately familiar with the car.

Random Cylinder Misfire

The cam sensor code is the part to concentrate on, also check the timing belt for excess play causing the camshaft to whip, this will cause a random miss.
