.Just to be sure, do you know that when you insert your key into either the driver or passenger (front) doors, and turn the key over to the far LEFT (in the process of unlocking the door), and hold the key in that position for more than a second or so, your windows will all roll down?? This is supposed to happen - it is a benefit of owning a VW! It is all described in the owner's manual.
Now the other side of this function, is that if when you get out of the car, and any of the windows are left open (including the sunroof if you have one), inserting your key and turning it over to the far RIGHT (in the process of locking the car), and once holding it there for more for a second or so, will then close all the windows for you. This opening and closing process will only continue for as long you hold the key turned over in the extreme position in either direction. Once you return the key to the center position, the opening and closing will stop. So you just hold it there until the windows are all closed. This option is not available via your keyless remote though - only via the key in the door locks.
It's something I love about the VW design - you can choose to let fresh air into the car before getting in without having to insert your key into the ignition and on the other side, if a window (or the sunroof) is accidentally left open when you've exited the car, you now have the option to close them all without once again inserting your key into ignition and turning it over.

i had the same problem. After checking the window motor was not the problem i then checked the wiring harnes in the door. I beeped out all the connectors to make sure there were no broken wires and cleaned up all the contacts. The main connector looked quite corroded. I sprayed all the connectors with rust check and reassembled. The window is working fine now

first you can loosen the top strut nuts, they are accesses from the boot and the bolt tops may have an allen key top you can use to stop the piston spinning, then you will need to jack up back of car, one side at a time, unbolt bottom of existing shocks, place new ones inplace but bolt tops in first, if they dont fit as too long to get into the bottom bolt holes, try jacking the car as high as possible and get a friend to slowly but firmly push down on the rear wheel, (btw you do this with the wheels on, just as easy as off) and with that extra clearance you should get em in.. or there are spring compressors but I doubt they will be needed, or even possible on "in car mounted" springs.. goodluck, there are also several articles on vwwatercooled.org.au, checkit!! :) Chas

The parts aren't really that expensive, it's the labor these places charge an hour. Call around and see who can do it the cheapest, unless you want to do it your self.

The drivers door window switch probably needs replacing. The control units are built into the window motors.Best of luck.
