2002 nissan sentra takes a long time to move out of park. If i hold the brakes on... a few minutes later the gears will release and i can take it off park. Sometimes i hear the release happen but it won't. all the other gears switch okay.

the problem is the park interlock safety mechanism is sticking,( keeps u from shifting out of park unless the brake is pressed) it has nohing to do with restarting the engine several times. Check and verify the brake lights work is the first thing to do.

2015 Nissan Sentra won't shift out of park

It could be a mechanical problem like the shift cable or electrical like the release lever not getting power to release. First have someone hold their foot on the brake pedal and see if the rear brake lights are working. If not, then the brake light switch may be bad or there is a bad fuse. The brake switch is what feeds the release lever the power. There should be an emergency release button option that you can activate to release the switch.

I have a 2005 Nissan Altima will not shift out of park.I have replaced the shifter assemble, brake lights do work,Need help

If the floor shift lever wont move out of park, there foot brake lock that prevents it from moving until you depress the brake pedal and pull it out of park. I think the release is vacuum operated so try depressing the brake pedal a few time while trying to release. TerBo

My 2002 nissan sentra is stuck in park.. when i press the brakes, the gear shifter won't go into reverse or drive until after a few tries. once it gets into reverse or drive it's fine. the only problem is...

You can try avoiding to place the car in PARK,when you stop the car just leave it in neutral and secure it with the handbrake.Inside the car under the gear stick should be a switch which suppose to keep the gearbox in park .When you push the break pedal it turns that switch on so you can place the car in to gear.Removing this switch can fix your problem ,but it is unsafe. The replacement of this part cant be too expensive.

GEAR STUCK ON PARK AND WON'T MOVE

I think your brake shift interlock solenoid is not releasing the Park position when you apply the brake.

Check for a blown fuse first. see owner manual for location of fuse.

Also, check owner manual for how to manually bypass the interlock.

When you step on the brake pedal, it activates a solenoid that unlocks the shift linkage cable so it will move. It is a safety feature to ensure you have you foot on the brake and not the gas, as you shift out of park.

please rate highly if this helps.

2002 neon rear driver's tire is locked and won't move

sounds like the parking brake cable is stuck on the side, the first step, and the easiest step it to locate the cable behind the tire and really spray it with "WD-40" or "PB Blaster". That is to see if the cable can become free. If that doen't work, than you have to manualy de-adjust the brakes, ny locating a small rubber plug, rectangular in shape and using a brake adjusting tool, (availabel at most auto part stores) to "turn back" the adjusting screww inside the drum.
