The standard description of Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) P0242 is "Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Sensor "B" Circuit High" [Reference: SAE J2012 Revised Dec 2007]
This is NOT a valid code for a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 truck (for any engine available that year, including 6.6L diesel).
P0342 or a P0442, or a P0742, or a C0242, are all valid codes for this vehicle, but not a P0242.....Please check the code again and repost your question.
If the code is actually P0442, There is a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB), Reference Number: 02-06-04-037I
This code is very common on this vehicle and is caused by failure of the canister vent valve due to water and debris intrusion into the vent filter. This TSB calls for replacement of the canister vent valve and replacement and relocation of the canister vent filter assembly to prevent repeated failures.

There is no p0242.Are you sure it is not p0442.This would be the evaporative emission system.Has to do with the emissions. You need a scan tool and a smoke machine to test for evap.leaks.Usually the vent solenoid. This in the area of the spare tire. This is the most common problem that I have seen on the Silverados. The only other thing is the gas cap.Hope this helps.Good luck.
