I have a 94 pontiac bonneville and the last 2 days when I'm stopped at a light and I start to drive again my car goes really slow then kindof jerks to catch up. I just bought the car 2 weeks ago and my check engine soon light came on. I just did an oil change but my service light is still on. I have to get a smog within 30 days but I need to get the engine light off. I have also disconnected the negative battery and the light came back on a minute later. What could this be?

    How would I go about getting the trouble codes from the computer?

    Autozone doesn't do codes anymore. I know that my car is OBD1, but it has a ODB2 connector.

    You will have to buy a code reader because you need to find out what code is stored in the computer to see where to start at.

You have to retreive the trouble code stored in the computer and then you will know which area you are having a problem in whether it be fuel,ignition,emission ect.

    You will need a code reader or a scan tool to do this or go to your local autoparts store like advance auto or autozone and they will retreive them for you.

SOURCE: new battery now radio is locked on '94 Pontiac Bonneville.

you have to call the pontiac dealer parts dept and he will tell you how to get the code you may have to prove ownership for the car because the anti-theft is activated at this time

Ok , try this. have an other person push the horn button while you check for voltage at the horn wire. red wire from meter to horn wire and black to ground on car. should get 12 volts, or you can also use a test light. if it light up the circuit is good, or if you read 12 v on meter. replace horn. if not then find horn relay and replace it. sorry i'm not sure where that is located. might have to follow wire from horn back to it . possible under hood on the firewall. if that is not it then the only thing left is the switch in the steering wheel is not making contact. that is all to the horn circuit. hope this helps.

You have to jumper the two top right terminals in the ALDL connector to pull up the codes. It should flash a 12 first to tell you that you are talking to the ecu. Check all of your fuses.

have vechicle code scan, faulty mass air flow sensor will cause engine run poorly stall out.sound like transmission could be slipping not going in over drive if vechicle cant go over 40 miles an hour.change transmission fluid and filter see it helps. mass air flow sensor has to be replaced most people try clean them but best to replace them.

Which light is on ? The ABS light or regular Brake light?
If ABS light is on, your ABS is currently not working and it might be an electrical problem.
If the regular brake light is on something is wrong with the hydralics in the brake system. Either way bring it in ASAP. Good luck

Car dies for no reason

I have a 1994 Bonneville and it to had trouble with it quiting while driving at low speed or slowing down and after doing a ton or resurch it turned out to be the EGR valve and it is a very common thing for the 3800 3.8. motor.it is expensive to replace and all the salvage yards that I went to did not have any on the motor so I had to buy one new $105 but in the end it was worth it. Until I could come up with the money I just took it off and sprayed carb cleaner in it and it would last a few weeks until it started to act up again. hope this helps every one.
