Could just be the injectors. They make a clicking noise when the engine is running and you usually can`t hear them when the hood is closed. Some are louder then others. If you know a good mechanic just have him listen to it or stop by a shop and have them listen to it.Go to more then one shop. Some places will might tell you your motor is going when it really is not.You need to be careful.Hope this helps.Good luck.

SOURCE: 2002 Chev Blazer has ticking noise when started.

Hi There;
Sorry I wasn't trying to suggest anything I was only trying to collect information.
The fact that you keep the oil fresh & the level up helps alot when trying to figure this out over the net.
With the information you have given me It looks like you have one of two possibilities.
To try to figure it out you'll need to start the truck cold with a friend around. have the hood open so you can hear the noise clearly. next have a friend plug the tail pipe with a rag or their boot or something. This will increase the presure in the exahst. as the pressure increases in the exahst I suspect you will notice the sound increases or changes substantially. if this is the case you have an exahst manifold leak. Either the bolts that attach it to the head are broken or the manifold it self is cracked. This is quite common on mid to high milage engines.
The next possibility & less likely is a weak or sticky lifter. this is less common in engines that have clean oil & are well maintained.
The fact that it was doing this more when cold & that you discribed it as a "TICK" pretty much rules out any other issues.
P.S. With this info I am assuming the noise is from under the hood. If you notice the sound is coming from somewhere else when you pressure the exahst would lead you to a leak elsewhere in the exahst of course but the fact that it is engine temprature related still leads back to the manifold.

I know this is a lot of info but if you follow it through step by step you should be able to figure this out.

Please let me know how this works out for you.
Farrout!

SOURCE: Loud ticking noise in cab under glove compatment.

get your owners manual out and find where the fuse panels are. there is generally one under the hood and another one under the dashboard. when you find them, there are relays and flashers plugged in as well as fuses. put your hand on the one under the dash it when you hear the click and you can feel which one it is. if that is not it, i would suggest talking to a chevy service manager about vent and heater box flap actuators as being the cause.

SOURCE: 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier, 2 door,

this sounds like an imbalance in the fan cage(squirel cage),either something has fallen into the fan to cause the problem or the fan has a problem with it,or the fan motor is bad.either way it will have to be removed and either cleaned of the debris that has fallen into it or the squirel cage will need replacing or the fan motor will have to be replaced.

What could be ticking noise in 2003 cavilier air conditioner.?

with a/c on, turn the fan off. is there still a ticking noise?

turn the a/c off and turn the fan of mid way. is there still a ticking noise?

If the noise is only there when the fan run then there is a foreign object in the blower/fan of the air system. need to get at the blower to clean out the box.

My neighbor's 1998 Cavalier is making a strange noise. It has automatic transmission, new tires, and 155,000 miles. When idling at a stop, it sounds fine, but when it starts movig and hits 15 or 20 mph...

Try getting on an open road, get up to about 45 MPH or where ever the noise is loudest. Put the car in neutral and turn the engine off. You can roll in a straight line for a long time. Make sure nodody is around you. If the sound stops when the engine is off, then the noise is coming from the motor. If the sound is still there, its got to be coming from the tires. Id guess a wheel bearing.

2003 dodge ram has light tick for a minute at cold start then goes away

The 'light tick' is most probably a valve lifter. The valve lifters in the engine are hydraulic, and are pressurized by the engine's oil pump.
When the engine gets some mileage, say 60 or 70 thousand miles or more, the engine is just not as tight as it once was. What happens is that the lifter loses its pressure when the engine is not running, because there is some wear. When you start the engine, the lifter takes a few moments to pressurize, and makers a ticking noise until it does. The 'ticking' is the sound of the valve being hit by the push rod, which is being pushed by the lifter. Once the lifter is pressurized, the 'ticking' sound stops. This is a very common thing for engines, it will eventually happen to nearly every one.
Sometimes, thin, old oil can cause this. If you have not changed the oil/filter in a while, you should do it now.

This is nothing to really worry about right now, but it is a sign of engine wear. Just be sure to run the proper oil in the engine, and do all the proper maintenance.

Had to jump start my battery this morning. Now

It's kind of something telling you that your battery shot. The battery isn't pushing out enough amperage to have things properly function. Replace the battery if the car will not start again after running for about 2 minutes

2003 Ford Ranger ticking noise, not a ping or knock. It is coming from the engine.

THE ticking noise coming from the engine ..is it just a 1 tick on idle at about each rev of engine,,and does it make any differance to the running of engine ,,Does it get softer when it gets warmer.
As it sounds like a loose tappet and being a oil adjusted tappets this thought of thing does come in now and again. and the best thing to do is to get a small plastic tube 25mm (or 1' ) and 2ft long and put it to your ear and listen at the top of the rocker cover ans see if the noise gets louder in a certen place ,as you will hear it if it is there..
Other wise it could be a Small end on the conrod which the piston is connected to.... lets hope not.
So let me know as soon as poss the answers to all the above. Ron

My car started ticking should i replace the rod bearings?

Not neccessarily. Have it diagnosed first. The ticking could be many different things. Bearings are one, lifters another or could be not internal engine, may be external. You also need to find out why its doing what it doing otherwise you will waste money fixing something and end up doing it again..
