98 pontiac will not crank

have to be more specific in your description. Turning over and crank are the same thing....

If you have a vats system (anti-theft) it needs to be reset

The key trick involves the security system. If the chip in the key fails, the security system will prevent the engine from starting.
Have you tried a different key ?

what is getting power and whats not? headlights work? horn? turn ignition switch on. lights on dash light up? crank car, cranks? no crank? cranks but wont run? ck eng light comes on when key on? clicks when turning ket to crank?

sounds like it needs an ignition switch. the reason it dies after a few seconds after jumping the starter is bc the security system from gm thinks you're stealing the car so it kills the fire. the security system goes thru the key so if the switch is bad, it wont run no matter how you try to crank it

first of all lights on dashbord should come on no matter security or pass key deterant is in .better check "ignition switch".

the crank sensor is located behind the oil filter. trace your wires from the coil pack and you will should be able to see it. if not pull your right tire off and your oil filter and thats were it should be.
