My exhaust pipe rusted off - 1992 Chevrolet C/K 2500

  • Anonymous Feb 22, 2012

I understand about the muffler. The muffler broke the nipple off the breather tube on the rear differential. Is there a way I can repair or rig something up? I can't afford a new axle. It's a Ford Silverado k2500 1992. All responses appreciated!

Replace with new one. You really can't get past this one. If it rusted at the exhaust manifold you should be able to get one at a wrecking yard fairly cheap. If you change anything on the exhaust make sure you spray break free.

SOURCE: Exhaust pipe/flange detached from the motor.

Depends how close it to motor. If it not to close to motor you can get a connector at Meijer for $9.99 and reattached it by yourself. But it would be just temporary fix. Overwise you need to buy a full assembly.
Hope that helps
Good Luck

1994 ford ranger has chirping noise coming from behind motor I replaced distributor cap and rotor still happens and i can't figure out what it is does any one know?

Sometimes this is called an Exhaust chirp. This can happen where the main exhaust pipe meets the exhaust manifold. There can be a part called an exhaust donut, which is in between the manifold and the catalytic pipe.

Some models have a smaller pipe coming from the catalytic pipes and approaching the Pollution equipment. Some of these pipes have a flexible joint which rusts and leaks causing a chirping noise.

Convert dual exhaust on 99 sunfire gt to single?

You can cut out the Y pipe and replace it with a flex pipe from parts store, then clamp each end of the flex pipe, the pipe diameter will be 1-7/8 or 2 inch, also for the pipe replacement piece would work from a sunfire or cavalier from 1995 and up, might need to replace the muffler strap too. as it can break from rusting, if not already rusted and broken.

What are the torque specs for 1996 Buick Century 3.1 L intake manifold?

Front Pipe REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Pipe Without Catalytic Converter
  1. Before removing any component of the exhaust system, always squirt a liquid rust dissolving agent onto the fasteners for ease of removal..
  2. Raise and support the front of the vehicle on jackstands.
  3. Remove the exhaust pipe-to-manifold nuts.
  4. Support the catalytic converter, then disconnect the pipe from the converter. Remove the pipe.
  5. Remove the exhaust gaskets. To install:
  6. Be sure to use all new gaskets when required. Assemble the system, check the clearance and tighten the bolts to about 15-30 ft. lbs. (20-41 Nm). Fig. 1: Front exhaust pipe connection common on vehicles with the catalytic converter not included 86813320.gif

  7. All clamps should be tightened to about 18-25 ft. lbs. (24-34 Nm). Do overtighten the clamps. If pipes become dented they can leak.

Exhaust Pipe broke/Rust on muffler

Flex pipe will work, or if it's a straight section of pipe you can buy a universal piece of exhaust tubing with flared ends, trim off the rusty ends on your original pipe with a hacksaw or Sawzall and slip in the new section. Clamp it with 2 muffler clamps and you're set. Total cost should be under $40.

I have 96 Caprice Classic...muffler has begun making quite a throaty rumble...I took to Monro Muffler...they said I need to replace from Manifold all the way to back....they want some $600. Anybody have...

I can't see your exhaust system, but I do recommend that you have them show you the "why" of it. Generally the front pipe and the cat last a long time and generally don't need to be replaced very often. If the flanges are rusted and have failed there are "wrap around" replacements that can be used without pipe replacement. Most common is to change everything from the cat back. As I said, have them actually show you what is wrong...or take it to another shop and without telling them the original findings, have them look at it!!! Since there is very little involved except a visual inspection, most shops will not charge or will charge very little for this.

Exhaust removal required to drop transmission on 92 Ford Ranger?

Yes you do. trust me you don't want to get that thing half way out and down and not be able to continue. Soak those rusted exhaust studs in a good penetrating oil over night. I bet they come right out. I would not recomend cutting the pipe.

95ls Rusty clamps btwn exhaust pipe/ catalytic converter/ Y pipe

Those Y pipes are very spendy and rust is definatley a bummer. I live in the desert southwest and see this problem much less as there is little or no rain. Depending where you live it might be worth it to call a yard in vegas or phoenix and purchase one salvage and try to get it ground shipped as cheap as possible. Couple of hundred for the Y pipe and 75 bucks shipping might be a way to go.Set terms and get supplier to guarantee its condition
